I have a stock 86 350x that i have had for about a month now. It runs great and is very strong. The problem is starting after its been ran and the engine is warm. It starts two kicks when cold no problem but after its warm the right leg is going to get a work out. anyone have any ideas? I need to figure this out before my leg falls off. I think it is running somewhat on the rich side but not a lot? It had a spit fire plug in it when i got it and i replaced that back to the stock plug but i dont think it helped much if any at all. :wondering

Check the valve adjustment, adjust them with the engine cold. I had an 85 350x that was the same way, & I had to mess with the carb also. When it comes to the carb if you are not sure what you are doing, you are better off taking it to someone who does.

You will get to know it with time.
Try cracking the throttle just a hair when you kick it while hot... etc..
What plug does it have in it ? ngk or champion ? and what model ?

Check your decompression lever. Also go through yoru carb and check everything make shure its all clean. look closely at the pilot jet it might be letting a little too much or too little gas through when you kick. Just go through and make shure everything is clean.

Starting a 350X when it is hot takes just the right touch. They are all a little different in what they want to start hot. You just have to work with your trike and figure out what exactly she wants. Making sure everything (carb, decompression, valves, etc) are in tip top shape will help too.

Definitely check that valve clearance, make sure it's right.

No I drove to Cinnci to get it. I must have missed the one in the paper. All of you guys that are close i know where a 86 waterpumper is for sale. :Bounce Thanks for all the replys I rode all day Saterday and had no problems at all. I think it was just the learning curve. :p I did have a hell of a time with the kicker not wanting to unfold. The smallest amount of mud and it would stick. It looks like there is a ball in there? can that be replaced?

I still have mine. Won 7 out of 9 Mx events at Robards in 86-87 with mine. Do you know where that was? Would not by chance live off of Old Madisonville Rd? My son notice a 86 surfaced in that area recently. I have a 85-350x. Shoot penetrating oil on the moving parts. Work it free then spray some litho. grease in there. That should take care of it. I had to get a ball @ spring for the 86-200x because of the kick starter keeped un folding.
Just curious, a little detail on the 86 250r!

I ride in between old madisonville road and 41A so that may have been me but I also was told there was one sitting out side of a house on old madisonville road but the guy that saw it didnt know what it was he just said it was white so i knew it had to be an X but I haven't seen it? Im always looking for people to ride with. The guy i normally ride with lives in Louisville (85 350x) so another trike would be great. We are in our mid 30's and the younger guys on the quads always think we are nuts till they see they cant keep up. The water pumper is owned by the people that own wide open motersports on green street. I think they want 2 for it. It was his wifes trike. Very good shape i was told? havent had a chance to go look at it. I would love to have it but I have three trikes and a four wheeler. I have thought of everything and every excuse but I just cant justify getting it. My better half will kill me if i come home with another trike.
