Why is there a cap on the left hand crankcase cover (the alternator assembly cover). The cap is a 30mm cap according to partsfish and I've noticed on my 200x it simply screws off and you can look inside at the stator rotor (I'm not talking about the smaller one used for ignition timing). Can I open this while the engine is running just to hook up my portable tachometer (it's a direct contact tach that has a rubber tip, put the tip on a spinning object and it reads RPM's)? I'm thinking I could stick it in there on the bolt to set my idle perfectly at 1400 before I set my timing to get it perfect with a timing light I just got. I know you shouldn't ride with it open....I'm not stupid, hahaha. Thanks for any help.
