hey I just bought a 86 350x today for 700 bucks and it needs a few things but i thought it ws worth it. I got it home and noticed that there is a huge hole in the case where the sprocket is. I have read that this is a common problem among 350x's? I was wondering if anyone might have an extra case they wana sell thats not cracked. I was also wondering if there is anyway to prevent this from happening again, if its soo common than is it just a junky design or somthin? any help is appreciated.

Yes, you probably got a good deal for $700. As far as the case, if the chain hits above the sprocket chances are it hits the air pocket and no oil will come out, if it hits below there will be oil. Its partially bad design, plus neglect from not maintaining chain tension, running with out skid plate, and running with loose bearings. I say bad design because they could have made the counter shaft stick out a bit further or make the outter case wider so if the chain did come off it wouldn't hit the inner case too, which to replace you need to split the cases and tear the motor down to nothing.

On the 350x its very important to run a case saver. It will prevent that from happening. Hrc you gota know that, Thats why they can have a design like that, because they make a bolt on piece that fixes it and you wont have any problems.

DON'T buy a cheap chain! I have noticed that the cheap 20.00 chains from marshall or whom ever are crappy chains. Buy yourself a good RK Racing chain, and as long as your carrier bearings are goos and you maintance it well, you should have good luck. I put a cheap ass chain on my 250R and had to adjust it every 2-4 hrs of riding time. Needless to say the chain got loose and come off, breaking my case. I have since fixed it with a good RK chain and have only had to adjust it once...... that was 2 years ago!! just my .2cents

I use cheep chains all the time. It dosent matter what kind of chain you use just how you maintain it. If you have a casesaver you dont have to worry aobut braking the case so therefore you can get a full life out of a chain.

Yea, case saver might help, I know on a 200x it usually takes a chunk out around one of the case saver bolt holes in the center case, so you'd need a new center case anyway if you wanted to put another saver on. I have a 350x left case that the top saver bolt hole is cracked off, maybe the same thing happened to it.
