Just bought an 85 250SX. It's pretty rough but has potential. It starts with the electric starter but the only time the kicker will engage is "one time only" after you shut the engine off. You get one kick & then it won't catch after that. Anybody had this problem on their SX? TIA.

They are notorious for this.... very common problem so don't feel bad.

I simply use my electric start, mine works tho... usually.. slips once in a while but i almost never use it.

I haven't got a manual for this thing yet & I'm not familiar with them. I'm wondering if there is some kind of a clutch that needs to engage or is it some stripped gears inside or......?
Looks like a major to rip into it. Looks like the whole right side has to come off?

Your sprag is bad in the clutch. Its a pretty easy fix and all to common to these models. I've bought a few for group members whenever I've done a parts order. Saves a chunk over what the dealer wants. But, enough soliciting, this isnt the classified. PM me and I'll snap you a pic out of the service manual and all that good stuff.

Sure, I'll have to email it to you because I can't figure out how to attach something from my email to either this board or a PM.

Nope that isn't gonna work either, can't figure out how to attach anything when I tried to email you through the board. PM me your email address I guess. What am I missing here? Why can't I attach anything, is it me or the board that isn't firing on all cylinders?

Hi, attached is the picture for the procedure. The only big thing to note is that the nut you will remove has LEFT HAND THREADS. Which means you're going to have to go against instinct and turn to the right to remove the nut. I would follow the recommendation of using an impact. The sprag is Honda part 91101-HA0-003. Give www.servicehonda.com a try for that part. Looks like they're selling it for $71.62, which is darn close to my cost of $68.30 at Powersports pro. I've would have to order that part in, pay the freight, and then send it to you. See, where I'm going?

Since you're in there, take a look at the friction material of the centrifugal and make sure the drum has no cracks. Also take a look at the drive clutch (the one on the left side) and make sure the friction plates are still good. Whatever you do, don't take the kickstarter out of the engine case. Its a treat to get back in and is not the culprit anyways. Well, good luck.

I uploaded the pic to my web page... 250r.us (http://www.250r.us/images/sprag.jpg)

Awsome !! Thanks.

PS: When you want to copy the content of an e-mail to the boards.....

When you have the e-mail open ... click on EDIT and then SELECT ALL... or simply highlight the entire text portion...

Then click on EDIT and COPY.

Then open a "reply" window and right click on the text box and click on PASTE... and send it away !
