Ok. I just got some more engine enamel to paint my SuperTrapp I just got off eBay. Has anyone ever used PlastiKote 500* engine enamel on their header, and how has it held up?? I'm having some doubts on this. 500* doesn't sound like too much.. I'm thinking that after awhile of long, hi-heat trips, this stuff will start coming off. I had 1200* stuff that I used on my heat sheild and other various things, but I ran out, so I went to get more and they were all out of the 1200* paint. So what do you guys think?? Will 500* paint hold up?

It won't hold up for too long I don't think. I used barbaque grill hi temp paint on my header. I think if you prepare the surface properly the 1200 should hold up pretty well. Doesn't that stuff have to be baked on?

No. You can bake it on, but if you don't bake it, you have to let it dry for a week before you can use it.
Dammit!

I always had good luck with just normal header paint from the auto supplies store. You have to prep the surface right and clean the mud off when you're done riding (hitting it with a little WD40 after rides might help). Lay down 3 even but fairly light coats. Putting it on too thick will cause it to flake off.
You thought about ceramicoating it?

I've considered cerami-coating it, but right now I don't have the funds.

I usually use BBQ paint as well but I've found over time the rocks from the front tire usually take it off but I think just about anything you use might do that.
