well im stuck on this, i have an '83 honda 200e, and a 82 honda 200, and if they sit for 2 days, then wont start unless i pull them and pop them into gear, witch i dont want to screw anything up doing, i have fresh gas with gas treatment in it to stop it from going bad, stabal or stabil or what ever it is, new plugs they turn over nice with the pull starts but just wont fire. any ideas what the heck? a buddy said it could be the plug, wrong ones or wrong gaps. since i bayght them used, i dont have a clue what are the correct ones are, i just use what was in them. any ideas welcome....please

NGK should be DR8ES-L

Weird problem... got rust in your gas tank by any chance ?

The gasoline has to have what's called "high fractions" to start, those are the real smelly fumes off fresh gas. They go away very quickly and StaBil wont prevent it.

Im assuming the carb is OK and that the choke works. Does it idle OK once its started? Does the idle mixture screw work?

Weak ignition is the most common cause. Get it running at night and pull the spark plug cap off the spark plug, not so far that it dies, but enough to see the arc. It should be white, but Ill bet its orange. I had the same problem with my 250R until I eliminated all the plugs in the electrical system, now it starts on as little as 1/2 kick.

The kind of plug isnt very important for starting, just so the gap is correct and its not fouled. Should be around 0.040" for most stock plugs. If the ignition is weak, reduce the gap to about 0.025 - 0.030" and it might start easier. Its not good to run like this, just do it for a test.

I find these old trikes need a combination of things to start.

My big red would fire just fine with full choke and no throttle until it got warm.. i had to pull the choke and hit the starter.. let it go until it wanted to stall then turn off the choke it would rev up.. and when i wanted to die again i'd put the choke back on.. do this for 1 or 2 minutes and away you go.

My 82 needed full choke and just a hair of throttle along with the pull start and it would fire but not idle on it's own until warm.. just put your thumb on the throttle.. just a tiny amount.. pull and keep it reving.

My SX ... full choke.. hit the starter and leave it alone. i love my SX

Your valves could also be out of adjustment. Intake valve worn/pitted and also the exhaust valve pitted.
