We put the headlight out of a guys 68 ford truck on his 200x using a rag, some bungees, and a roll of duct tape. He was going to have to quit riding at night, bucause his light was competely gone. The only thing there was the pigtail with the plug. Its the same as a sealed beam headlight, so he got to ride at night all weekend. When it was time to go home, we put the light back in his truck.

well lets see, i cut the rear fenders off because they were busted up, used zip ties to stitch the front fender back together to keep crap out of my eyes, used red duct tape to tape up the cracks in the front headlight, used black electrical tape to tape the choke cable to the handle bar because the hand switch part got broke, and used this muffler tape stuff to fix a hole in the exhaust. this was because the prevous owner treated it like crap. but i will say that it runs good and strong and its the only thing i ride when we go out. and it has yet to let me sit. but until i get some extra money to fix these problems this is how its gonna stay. which make me sad because this is such a good little machine. but aleast its not getting treated like crap anymore.

I've used wire to hold on an exhaust before when the springs came off. I've also used welding rods to shim up the hub on a worn out axle so it wouldn't slip on it, heh. I dont mean used the rods to weld it on there, I mean stuck the rods in there the length of the splines and then beat the hub over it with a hammer. Good and tight then. Worked until I took it back off :D

just bought a `82 185s that is all together except for the recoil starter, and a `84 200s that is all there, but totally disassembled....bought them this past week for 60 bucks for both of them....WOO HOO!!....somebody along the line of previous owners welded a KC Highlight Off Road spotlight to the forks of the 185 for a headlight, and somebody welded the steering stem tube off a `76 yamaha to the frame of the 200s,dunno why....but it works, cuz the 200s front end is on it and feels pretty tight!...i`ll try to get pics up pretty quick.......oh yea,the 185 fired right up tonight so i took it for a spin down the street and it ran great....it alone was worth the 60 bucks!

um lets see here. when i bought my 250r the exhuast flange bolts where stripped so i used vice grips to hold it on for a while. and the silencer was and aftermarket one and the bolt holes did not match up so i used some wire to keep it on.

Even though this is for trikes I'd thought I'd mension this. My friends 230 quadsport needed a total rebuild when we got it. We took the head and cyclinder off and in some places where there should have been bolts holding it on there was red "gummy Worm" molds of bolts stuck in there. LOL and a couple days ago since it also came with an aluminum dg exaust (which isnt for it) he melted a metal plate into it and welded the other side to the pipe so it would hold :D looks good too.

I used a poweraid bottle for a gas tank on the 200s for about a month, it was ducttapped to the frame. That was becuase inside of the tank was getting coated.
I bungee corded the seat from the 200s onto the YTM for a few weeks because the seat was away getting recovered.
I put 120+ rivets and tin backing in the front and rear fenders of the 200s to hold them together.
put car tires on the 200s one day for fun and tied it to the back of the truck and did burnouts into 5th gear.
put the same car tires on the YTM when it snowed and was able to drive straight, do a 360 and then keep driving the same direction (very hard to do, only did it right twice.)
Havent done anything "redneck" on the Tri-Z and I dont plan on it.
i wouldnt call myslef redneck though, I just live in a small town and theres nothing better to do.

I used a coffee can cutout lid for fender repair,on a 86200x melted exhuast hole. Pop rivit little wrapp here and there and walla the most stable fenders! The redkneck or airheaded part is I accidently put the expiration date on the side that you can see   Still useing those fenders. Dont wanna put my good ones on. Used a exaust clamp off a semi and a block of wood to hold my bike scilncer on for the day, JD green exaust springs from a a JD, ductaped up wireing under the tank, nails for cotter pins, lots of ductape on headlights, riding without a scilencer on a 465 for a day(LOUD), vicegrip shifters, welded shift levers back togther, ductaped clutch levers, hmmm all i can think of at the moment.

1: I spent more money on the mud grips on my 185 than I did for the whole thing.
2: Seat has been held on with bungee cord for several years. (also 185)
3: trailer hitch on 185 is made from 5/8 steel plate and 5/8 all thread (free)
4: My 200 has a pair of 7.62mm US ammo cans welded to the rack.

I was trying to get a little 110 running once, the only exhaust I had was an old Cobra with a hole blown in it right where it makes the first bend out of the motor. I quickly finished my beer, disected the can, and a little bit of JB Weld later, Wala, Bud Light exhaust system.

^^ i've kinda dont that before but we (me & friend) were desperate to ride so we too some gas out of his dads custom harley and the petcock sorta.... broke? lol  but the most redneck thing i've ever dont to a trike was made something like a suicide shifter on a 125m. the shifting doesnt work unless you twist this white knob when you press the shifting lever, so i just made a bar with a grip on it and a small wrench welded to the other end, and suck it on where the knob was.

I had a Honda 110 that the chain slipped and broke the motor, so we took the motor apart, cleaned everything up good, and used silicone to close the hole back up. It worked just fine like that for 2 years, and it didnt leak oil. Then i lost 2nd gear, so i just started in 1st, then went to 3rd, then i finally got rid of it. Now i have a 85 250 big red, and the seat has a hole in the back, so i used black duct tape to cover it up. I guess thats about the most redneck thing, other than putting a kawasaki 4 stroke street bike motor in a 250 kawasaki dirt bike frame, adn had to extend the frame, and put a 340 john deere trailfire snowmobile motor in a john deer 440 liquifire frame, and it runs just fine too.

I assisted in rigging up a 200 yamaha tri-sport, we were at a weekend long canada day bike & 4x4 bash, and my buddy showed up with the bike, it didn't have a muffler, and someone had a stock banshee muffler lying around, and it fit right on!, mind you it stuck about 8 inches past the grabbar, the throttle lever didn't work so, we rigged the cable up to the LEFT BRAKE LEVER, we cut a brake cable end off, and stuck the throttle cable in the hole, and jammed the brake lever end, in to hold it in place, the bike was an absolute riot, anytime it was running, it had a stripped hub, and buddy was leaning up on the stripped hub, revving it up and gear, and slamming it down on the good hub, and sending out good rooster tails, I lost track of howmany times it was rolled or over backwards, the thing seemed to run better with no one on it, it would take right off down the beach.
lol, good times!

I didn't have time to scan all the pages of this post yet, but i truly feel anyone who takes out a perfectly good metric factory bolt and jams a satandard amereican coarse of fine thread in the hole should be shot. These bikes were all brand new at one point, and had factory original parts that worked just fine. Where did they go? The only excuse for this is you bought half a bike at a garage sale for $20 and your makin a cheap yard beater, or you were stranded in a life or death situation 40 miles from camp and something fell out or broke. The hardware store or dealer isn't that far away.
Sorry for the bitterness but seeing a perfectly good 250r or 350x with no fenders, a homemade seat, and dirtbike bars with the frame welded in 20 spots,a angle iron grab bar and pipewrench marks on the axle just makes me mad.

Me and a bud went up to the woods, he had an ol' beater 350x that was a total POS, any way, the fuel petcock didnt work so he too vice grips and pinched the line, he learned that when you do this ofr a while the fuel line dosnt go back to the original state, se we barely got it too fit and then right when we headed out is clutch cable led piece broke at the clutch lever, so we took the vice grips used earlier, and made a redneck clutch, and by god it worked.

lol, no, i have never red necked anything, maybe when i was 14, but even then i can't remember doing it except maybe with a treehouse or something. I do have to say the mudflap idea is original though. It only bothers me when i have to contend with the "rig". Firts off ive owned my 86 200x since i was 16, now 30 and when your a youngster it always seems that * have no money.first thing was 2 wire the exhaust on the head with coat hangers.got sick of push startin it so clamped vise grips on the kick starter shaft.broke the chain so i whent to farm&fleet bought regular implament chain.broke the inside of the case where oil pump pumps oil to top of head and used mcdonalds straw in the port and some jb weld.clutch was slippin so i took it apart and sanded every disk &friction plate with sandpaper.rings got bad started blowin smoke so started using motor honey for oil!!Broke a bolt off foot peg while riding so whent to local junkyard and had it welded in place. got cheap aftermaket exhaust, muffler got so loud cut the bottom of oil filter slipped over muffler and screwed it to it and drilled small holes to make it quite(home made spark arrester)swing arm bolt and collar was 2 expensive so made one with gun stock pipe and round stock for bolt with welded nut for head and tapped the end for nut.Broke off front fender completly so cut white 5 gal. bucket in the shape of front fender and zip tied to forks.Rear axel hub bolts broke off so welded hubs on permanetly!Anybody else had the no money problem but bound and determined to keep the thing goin?

I've done lots of redneck fixes myself, but nothing compared to what I saw on the trail one day.
This guy came up (no shirt, overalls) on a big red with skinny jeep mudders on it, no fenders... I mean the tires were almost up to his shoulders. He had just taken the old jeep wheels and blew 4 holes in them with a cutting torch so they would bolt up.
Also, he had cut the muffler in half and welded on a huge rusted chrome car exhaust tip.
I think I pissed the guy off but man I was laughing so hard, I thought I was going to wreck myself.
