nothing new, kawaski has been doing it for years now with the tecates, oem plastic is nice, but I can't see $88 for stuff thats ridden in the dirt, maier plastic probably outsells oem 10 to 1, there is a reason PRICE. Cal-atv will probably buy out the remainder of the stock, they do that with alot of 250r parts. I don't know if I could do the $250 for oem rear plastic either, but thats just me, I feel performance is more important than looks(to a point). I'd rather buy a pipe, reeds, air filter and exhasut flange for that amount of money.

I call up my OEM honda (and Yamaha) parts Distributor and just randomly have him check on various Items when I am board. Someone on here restored a 250R and used OEM plastics. I thought they were gone so I called and did a check. Looks like they got the peices just in time. I can see 88 bucks for a fender any day of the week. and the 35 (or whatever the price is) for the radtiatior shrouds. Oh, I definatly see that one, quality is unmatched, the stockers just look so much better. There are a few scoops left for the 350X's and I just bought a pair for mine. Sure I could have bought Maiers for what just one of those stockers cost but, those stocks just look so damn much better and the fit and finish is unmatched my maier. My .02

Some people are just

Now are you saying someone told you that Honda is no longer making the 350x shrouds and only have a few left, or is that just your local distributer? If they are discontinued I may have to call and order 5 or 6 pairs!

Now, who the **** would through out perfectly good stuff??? Just totally insane some people are.

Phil, if you want some 350X shrouds then you might want to order a few sets up, there were some of them "tossed" as well. Sad but true.

what Honda and yamaha SHOULD do is sell the plastic molds to aftermarket companies!!! And don't try to tell me "they threw out those molds years ago", they still have them. Car companies still have the molds for 60's muscle cars and they sell them to companies! how sweet would that be???

This is the reason I bought two EXTRA complete stock sets of 85/86 250r plastics including headlight shells and have it in storage in the Honda boxes. Knew it wouldnt last forever

Also two tecate front fenders I have on order have been backordered for 4-5 weeks so I bought one off Chaplin Kawi on ebay just to be safe. The rear fender and left shroud came in ...Worried about the availablity of the front

Honda's warehouse is in Torrance , california. When they throw these parts out they destroy them first to discourage messy bin diggers and so no one will use the stuff, get hurt using or mounting it and sue honda for it. I have heard from my dealer who used to work at honda that they will always destroy parts before tossing them, he did say that it a regular practice though. For what it's worth I'm going to see how close I can get and maybe see what's up. It's about 50 miles from me. I would assume it's hard to get in there by the warehouse but maybe not. I'll let you all know what I find.

The whole throwing out thing.

You think some factory or warehouse workers would be offered discount prices or just give the stuff to them as a bonus to do what they want with. (like sell to us on ebay)

Or

Offer suppliers a huge discount with liquidation pricing.

I understand the fact that storage space isnt cheap but unnecceasarily filling landfills and paying for garbage removal has there own types of cost

Environmental and Economic

It is a true waste from many different angles!!!! What is this world coming to

I bought a 250sx from a independent contractor at the honda torrance facility last week. I didn't see which building was the parts warehouse but security didn't seen overly tight outsde of the buildings. I wandered all around while I waited for the guy to com down and meet me.

Another way that Honda possible looks at it is like this. Sure the machines were built to last but not forever, Take away our source of parts and eventually we would all be forced into buying something new because our old machines couldnt be fixed any longer.
