I am very intersted in doing this. Maybe find an old 500cc sled engine in a junkyard somewhere and slap it in a quad frame....Has anybody ever seen it be done? Or better yet do it? How do you get the belt drive to work and stuff like that? How does it run??? :naughty:

I've seen it. I remember it was over a thousand cc's, 260 hp, custom chassis, and it was looooooong. And it was faaaaaaaaaaaaast. Awesome combo for a drag quad. No shifting, the clutches hold it at the right rpm all the time, put a stutter box on it to hold it just under the clutch engagment rpm, and when the tree goes green, just release the button, and thats it til the finish line. I love it.

My biggest question is how hard is it to make the engine work? Can you keep the centrifical clutch and the belt drive??
How hard is it to transplant say a 500cc sled engine in a sport quad frame??

All I have to say is Polaris Quads ring a bell ? Aren't they belt drive ? LOL Go figure I guess it can be done.

^^^Its not so simple.......... You have to set a snowmobile engine in a quad frame at the exact right spot so the belt reaches and so it's tense like it should be.
Another hard thing about this would be the exhaust pipe.....you'd proubly have to make or extend one...

Well there are crossover pipes for vintage race sleds (I have 3 sets myself) that solves the pipe problem. The Polaris Trail Blazer uses the same clutching as a snowmobile (primary & secondary) but runs through a transmission. The only problem you may find is clearance for the motor & someone with a bit of welding experience can overcome that issue as well. I am currently looking for a Trail Blazer to trade my 86 R for to do this swap myself. I have a 2004 F7 motor with all the harness including the EFI system to make a killer 140hp 700cc Drag quad.

Heres one, 900R :w00t: that runs at most of the tracks in Mi. Its the fastest quad I've seen so far. A couple eeks ago at the local drags he got beat by a truck which was a little faster.

these guys hauls majorass....the one with the dvx plastic does 3.8-4.0's in 300 ft dirt drags in 85-90 degree sun... the purple one with banshee plastic is pretty fast, but is a little cobbed up for the money in it, and is comparable with the dvx as far as 300 ft times go....
