Wow I'm sure that title was a head swimmer. I posted yesterday about my 1985 225 DX yamaha. I was saying it smokes all the time and I want to pull it down and check out the jug piston and rings. It even peppers the rear plastic with droplets of oil while running. It runs pretty strong and I read a post today by someone talking about compression and opening the valve on top of their cylinder head. I have trouble usually the first pull when I GET THE STARTER rope ripped right out of my hand. So tonight when I got off 2nd shift I messed with it. I opened the relief valve on the head and it hit right away. Always before I had the problem of the hard pull. This leads me to believe that even though I have no compression gauge my motor has plenty. Maybe it is just a ring problem with all the smoke. Tell me any opinions if you have the time. Thanks
