I just got a KLT 200. Not sure what year. It seems to be froze up after setting of a long time. The starter was pulled off and the bike sat. I think the yard it was in flooded and some water got in but I am not sure. I need some help getting the kick starter to work. does it go towards the front or back of the bike. either way it does not budge. I also need a repair manual, like a clymer.

I have a KLT200 motor here... seems like they only had a kickstart back up for a year or 2... I think mines from a 82 maybe?? It too is missing the starter motor and I don't have a kickstart lever, but motor had clean oil in it and looks ok.... I'm in WNY if you need part soff it, let me know....

Chances are if water got in there somehow everything is rusted up. Might have to open her up to see what she looks like.

I have looked in the Case and the oil is fine as well as the insides. BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you look in through the spark plug hole it is a nasty oxidized mess. same with where the exhaust exits. I need a manual for it if any one knows where I could find one! I hate to pull it apart with out one due to timing, torque settings, and so on. The exhaust valve is down left open; should it bothe valves be close when the motor is off?

Try your Kawi dealer or ebay for a manual. No matter what the cost is, a manual is a solid investment. The first time it saves you from screwing something up, it just paid for itself. The position of the valves depends on what part of the stroke cycle the engine was in when it came to a stop the last time it was shut off. (OR quit) Looks like your's was on the exhaust stroke. The other possibility is that your exhaust valve is stuck open due to a bent valve stem.

depending on the severity of the rust in there.. you might be able to pour an oz of 10w30 in it thru the plug hole and leave it overnight.. then add a bit more and try to gently work it loose..

if it's as bad as it sounds it should really be taken apart and cleaned up and inspected !

To find the year go to the 10th digit in the string C=1882, D=1983 etc

Use bikebandit .com for blow up diagrams after you figure out the year.
use ATF to loosen the piston 1 oz for 2-3 days
torque on the head bolts = 75 lbs.
compression, if you get any, should be 125 less than 80 is a hone / bore; rings and piston
