I ordered a 86 200x stem bearing kit and put in on my 350x tripple, did everything correct and there is tons of slop and it doens't fit right, I lost the pieces for the top so I used the bearings for the top, today I changed the bottom back to the ball bearings and its alot better. I don't understand the part number is the same for the 350x and 86/87 200x, but they don't fit together, maybe it might work with the stock 200x tripple. just giving everyone a heads up if they are thinking of using one of those kits.

but they are the same part number for both, I don't see why it wouldn't work. the bottom part roller cap and tripple for the 350x fit perfect with no slop(using the ball bearings).

ooops! the all balls kit I have is my swingarm bearings. When I replaced the steering stem bearings I bought loose 7 mm ball bearings and packed them in there with grease. But even with those it is still nice and tight.

Yes the thread is old....
Did you figure out what the problem was?? I've been told NOT to use the spacer washer with the 86/87 200X tripples.

Hey dirtcrasher Im glad you posted to this old thread, I was just working on putting an all balls steering stem kit on my 86 200X; they told me not to use the spacer washer, but that is not my biggest problem, with the bottom bearing and race pounded into the frame, the bottom tripple tree is not even long enough to go through the top bearing and race and through the top of the tripple tree. I am not sure what I am doing wrong but it is making me furious:twisted: The only thing I can think is that the old race and rubber piece on the stem toward the bottom of the tripple tree has to come off; but there again I can't get it off for nothing. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks John

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I am working on replacing the stem bearings on my '87 200x.
Do we use the spacer washer or not?
Everything is removed except the bottom race which is stuck on the stem. After reading some old posts I plan on getting the dremel out.
Thanks,
DrSung
