you can remove the master link and with a socket and punch remove a link and re-install the master.

you can also get chain breakers at any auto parts store for about 10 bucks and it will save you lots of time and effort

before you cut it make sure that you have enough adjustment to take up the slack before you cut out a link. if you cut out too much you aren't going ridding to you get a new chain.

do you have a cut off wheel for the dremel?

Its way too loose, and R's are famous for throwing chains, as they dont have a chain guide on them.

Grind the ends of the pins off flush where shown in the picture. Grind flush and right on into the side plate a little bit. Then lay it on a hard surface, preferably cement, and use a chisel or screwdriver to force the side plate off by wedging it in between with a sharp whack of a hammer. The R has plenty of adjustment and you wont come up short if its all the way tight right now.

i never tried that. seems easier than what i do. i grind off one of the pins then bang it out with a punch.

You can get a half link at a dealership i know they have them there. Also maybe a hardware shop maybe! But i wouldnt ride it like that it could throw out your rear bearings or snap.

thats why i said to make sure you could cut it out and have enough room to adjust it and take the slack out. its happened to me before thats why i said it.

i think its a number 50 half link. but there more for lawnmowers not really meant for a atv. good thing its not an o-ring chain. pretty sure they don't sell half links for them.

thanks for the help guys, unfortunately i had to pass up riding today to mess with the chain :cry so a half link would work? any other options? i put the link back in so its very loose again,...should i try to take my sprocket back and get a bigger one?

If he had a 15 tooth sproket and went to a 13 tooth,a full link removal should work perfect. I would think there should be adjustment in the adjuster (84 versus 86 what I have) should take care of the half link.(odd tooth) 4" grinder is what I use on chain links also.

i meant get a smaller rear sprocket.

try a home depot or lowes for the link.

i thought so too, but its not the case. i dont know what to do now, either i use a worn sprocket that fits or a new one that make the chain too slack or too tight. no one around here carries half links.

would a half link make the chain weaker? do alot of people use half links, or is it just a cheap quick fix? thanks for all your help!

me i personally wouldn't put a half link on a 250 2 stroke 3 wheeler. its not made for it. there made for low horspower applications. but i know people on here use them though.
