I have recently purchased a 83 yamaha tri-moto 175 for 80 bucks in good condition, but it did need some help. I am almost done, after cleaing it up and hooking up the eletrical up and replaceing the rear sprocket and putting a new chain on it and new front tire and hub axle and breaks, it ran fine for about a week. then i found a pice of the bike that was a rubber strap with two rectangle clips on the end, then i day later i was riding it around the yard end it quit. There is no spark, then i found out the strap held the cdi in to place. i belive that it was swinging around and it hit the frame and broke. HOw can i check to make sure it is the cdi and not the coil.

go to the specificatons page,or buy a manual.you need to find the ohm specs for the 175 and test yours to see if it is spec.there is no way to test a cdi,but to eliminate all other possibilities
