this weekend im taking my 84 250r up to about 5,500ft above sea level, and i dont know if it will run up there. it runs good here, w a filter and no airbox, i think its still on stock jets. its running descent on 32:1 here in mesa, were around 1500 ft above sea level. i dont know how to rejet it, will it even run up there? if not, what can i do besides jets for a quick fix? diff mix ratio? thanks :TrikesOwn

It will most likely run rich and sputter a bit. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR PREMIX RATIO! It has nothing to do with it. Only thing you can do is re-jet.

My experence in taking a 4 stroke trike from sea level up to 5000 ft is to go down on the main jet by two sizes. In my 350X that meant changing the stock for 138 for a 132. (a 135 is between the two) Two sizes down above 5,000 ft is what the honda manual recommends too.

For comparison's sake, we had two water cooled 250R's at Cinders (one modded and one stock) and both of us ended up going down by a factor of 10. What I mean by that is I went from 175 to 165 and the other guy went from 150 to 140. That wasn't a random guess either. That's how far down they had to go to stop sputtering. That's going from about 1100 feet here in the valley to 7000 feet near Flagstaff.

Edit: Where do you live in AZ anyway?

When you go to flagstaff, have some smaller main jets with you and be ready to move your needle clip up one notch. Turning your air screw out a turn or so helps the low end a bit too.
