here are some pics of the impeller and oil seal, they look good to me. what do you guys think? will be replacing them. either way.

i called up Colorado power sports, a Yamaha dealer and talked to parts. first the guy didn't know what a tri-z was. then I told him it was a ytz250 and he found nothing for the impeller or oil seal. then I asked him if he had one for a banshee water pump and he didn't think banshees had a water pump. he then put me on hold. came back and said 45 bucks for the impeller and 25 for the oil seal. they don't have any in stock

it all looks good to me, but im not a yamaha guy...i know my R's water pump shaft and seal were shot....the shaft was pitted to all hell, and the seal was cracking and it all looked crappy...yurs looks almost new!....if there isnt antifreeze it the oil, the i would say its good to go.... the way i knew it was bad on my R, is behind the pump itself there is a little hole in the case for the leakage past the seal to drip out of, and boy was it dripping!

...and just to add, the discoloration of the shaft is probably heat treating, not from anything getting hot...

well my tranny was full of coolant. lots of it. the seal does look good and new. the shaft is smoth as can be. how else could that much coolant get in there?

well, what color was it? if it was just nasty watery gray, it was just nasty oil that was used way too long, but if it was definately coolant in the oil, it would have to be the seal.....

Them prices seem high to me. I don't remember paying that mucj for my parts. I think i paid around $20 for the seal and 25 or 30 for the impeller.

it should, i mean, the only place where coolant can get in there is at that mechanical seal, so you should be all set....
