As you can see I have the frame but need to make a actual headlight guard. That was an  option of the option if you know what I mean.
The factory grill has 3 bars going across that are maybe a 3/16 in diameter or so. Mine has the holes for it with little rubber plugs in them. Also the factory grill has brackets (2 on each side) shaped to go around the bar and the screws go thru them in to the bar holes. Be pretty hard to make that exact set up I think?
Doubt if I'll ever find one of those OEM jobs so any one have any bright ideas how I could make one?

Those OEM ones aren't that rare if you keep yo eyes peeled on ebay.
Here is what I would do:
Bring it to a good welder you know. Have him weld the bars right onto the guard. I've seen it done, and it looks perfect. Just make sure you know that the person doing it is going to do a good job.
Also would be a good idea to weld a vertical bar, like on the later 350x ones.

Chicken wire. It would make it a one of a kind

So you say you have seen them on ebay, well that's good to know. I have only been looking SX wise on ebay for a month now so hopfully I can find one. The weld on solution sounds good too though but I'd rather have the OEM job.

Huffa, look for 85/86 250r grills as well, they are the same. They do pop up on ebay every so often. Aftermarket has the grill already attached, welded on.

Another option is to buy some 1/8th in solid rod and cut it to length and tig weld them in place. If you dont have access to a tig welder, you could send it to me and I'll weld it for you. The only other problem is that you would have to get it rechromed which wouldnt be that much.

Heres a pic of both stock and aftermarket. Your guard looks a little different but if it has the plugs in it the stock grill should fit. Aftermarket is probably going to be stronger since they used a larger rod.
