shock question

How do I know if my rear shock is no good? It pushes up pretty easily with the coil off. It is pretty hard to pull back out. If you let go off it, it will extend back out slowly. I guess the only thing I' worried about is that it pushes in kind of easily. How much does a rebuild cost? Who does that kind of work? Anybody have a shock for a 81-82 r? thanx

the shock should prevent it from springing back quickly.

the spring will keep it from going down easy.

does it leak oil. from the seal ???

I don't see any oil leaking. it rides pretty good too. but I'm doing kind of a half ass restore job and want everything to be perfect. thanx for the reply
