i run the honda 80/85 too. I have never had any problems with it at all. The Honda dealers ive talked to swear by it and its fairly cheap. Have you installed the 89 clutch update kit? Reason i ask is because i just replaced my basket, and entire clutch along with the update kit. The update kit solved all of my problems, and my stock clutch and basket was still very usable, but i had already bought all of the new parts. If you dont have the update kit, get it! i believe service honda sells them for around 50.00

i use the 80/85 kit, but my clutch is getting soft on me. i was thinking of using something else but its probly too late now. i think the 80/85 is best for the r's because the oils made for it. for now im checking the junkyards around here for updated clutch parts.

Dammit!

im starting to use generic 80w 140 in my 84 250r. its just the autozone generic crap. i topped it off with the same brand but in 80w 90. i called the dealer and a shop and they said it would be fine.

I run dumonde tech racing transmission oil. It improves the shifting and works well on higher mileage rigs that might shift sloppy. A lot of road guys swear by it and I've had great luck wiith it. It does need frequent replacement though.

honda recommended sae 10w-40 se or sf api rating on all 3 @ 4 250r's Now it would be the sg rating. That is what I used in my 82 @ 86 atc. Then again honda wanted it's 20 to 1 two cycle oil used also, but you know we didn't!

If you can find it, try some "SPECTRO" CLUTCH SAVER. It Is pretty good stuff, I use clutch saver, or honda trans oil (red bottle). I put clutch saver in a half whore out banshee, & the owner said he could feel quite a differance, I'm not saying it will fix a bad tranny, but I know that good trans oil will sheer better at high gear speeds.

if your clutch is slipping, your better off getting a new clutch kit (metal- Fiber-springs) cost less then $80 (after market). your atc will feel better, tranny will pull better, and you won't take a chance of tearing something else down there

Forgot to mention on some four strokes (200x,350x ect.) has a oil flat screen filter that needs periodic cleaning. (See your owners manual). This is another reason to go inside of your right side case and take care of clutch business.
