The ad said "Yamaha 225 trike, parts or repair. $250." Turns out it is an 86 225 DRS. I jumped on it instantly. Needs a ton of TLC but actually runs good. It's had a hard life but it'll look as good as my DX that I redid when I'm done with it. Got too many projects to finish right now, so this will probably be my winter project. I'll post pics of the resto then.

That's the first time I've seen an 86. very nice. Might be kinda hard to find parts for that huh? Will any of the ealier years engine parts work on that?. Very nice!

Yeah, it's real hard to find parts for it in my area. The 83-86 engines were all pretty much the same, I think, just that this one has the reverse subtransmission.
I really need a frame though. This one is all busted / rewelded where the right foot peg bolts on. If anyone has an 83-86 DX or an 85-86 DR frame for sale, let me know please, please, PLEASE.....

Nice find Freewheel, I didn't know they made that color scheme in 86. I thought it only come in black/red for the 86's. Guess not.

the engines are the same EXCEPT that the left inner case is different to accept the reverse transmission. I already tried that swap with no luck.

Good going Freewheel. Not bad at all! Never saw those graphics on yellow before so you have a rare one I'd say + reverse to top it off.

As for the frame, I have seen at least 3-4 frames on ebay for them in the last few months. I have a nice one that I won but don't want to part with it.

My one 225 has the same problem as your picture shows but not torn out like that.

There is a decent one on now. Odd you didn't see it or didn't you look?

I'll PM you the link since we are not supposed to post on here.

Coming up with the correct decals is going to be the hardest part of this resto. Any help, hints, leads or ideas on them would be greatly appreciated. This trike needs a ton of work, but it is all doable (is that a word?) except for the decals.

I had all my decals remade by a local decal shop, there not as good of quality but the look good.
you should be able to find a place that would do them out in AB. just look in the yellow pages.
