I finally got a chance to really open the 200x up and it doesnt want to shift into 3rd sometimes or 4th. If I hold the clutch in and gently press the gear shifter down before shifting up it will work but I cant just slam through the gears. This is very upsetting seeing as though this project is pretty much complete. Where should I start looking? Clutch? If I have to split cases I guess I'll just buy another bottom end.

is the shifter return spring broke? cause if you have to push down a little it may be getting stuck since it is broke...never know

If that was the case he would have problems in all gears....broken spring usually indicates no return on shifter. but hey its just the cover take a peek...
I need some more history, recent split? Tranny gone through? clutch replaced? What what tell me. Buying a bottem end might get you a split anyway. If I were to guess, we are looking at a possible shift fork issue. Backwards gearing, Ie the sprocket for third and 4th reversed. How does it shift, when not running and running through the gears?

I never split this case. I split my original case because the drive shaft was stripped and I wanted to see how hard it was to actually split a case. I'm all set if I have to do that and try and put it back together! I bought a used bottom end off someone and I've been using that. The return spring sounds like that might actually be the problem. If I'm going real slow I can shift through the gears fine, but if I really try and fly through the gears I'm lucky to get out of second. It seems the shifter is staying in the up position, requiring me to lightly tap it down before up shifting. How can I check if it's the return spring? Otherwise it sounds like I'll be buying another bottom end and trying to fix this one!!!

Just pull the the clutch cover, its in there.... there is a star looking thing attached to your drum, the spring itself is under that attached to the shifter. You cannot miss it. You can pull it along with the star and the shifter, without pulling anything else.
Wanna sell your other bottom end?

I'll let you know what i find when i pull the cover off. as for my other bottom end, its in pieces strewn about. the only thing i kept all together is the tranny which still had a chipped tooth here and there. not much you could use unless you asked for specifics, and then i'd be happy to look for you.
