i have a 250R shock on my blaster, and i was wondering if the shock would fit on my 200x? that would give me a lot more ground clearance and i wont have to worry about my footpegs bottoming out anymore??
if it dosnt fit are there any other rear shocks that will fit without extreme fabrications?? i was looking at a 400ex rear shock and it looked like it would work...??

If your talking 1st gen 200x, the 400ex and 250r shocks are too long, way too long from what I'm reading.

You might be able to bolt it up but if you could it's going to sit and handle like crap. I'll go measure mine up for ya in a little bit. I've got a 400ex shock in the barn.

thanks man. i think the 400ex shock would work better, because its not as long, and the top of the shock isnt as wide as the 250R shock, but the 400ex shock has that large rezzie right at the top so that might hit and not allow it to bolt up aswell...but i think i could make something work...im not really worried about it, im going to be extending my swingarm soon, and i could always have the linkage mooved back to set the rear down a little bit, im just sick of bottoming out that shock and having the footpegs smack the ground...i was trailriding and hit some deep woops and doubled a few and every time i landed i felt like i broke my ankles...

I haven't owned a 200x in 10yrs so forgive the question if it's totaly stupid; can you flip that arm upside down that the bottom of the shock bolts too or does the swinger not allow it?

i think your asking can i flip the linkage thing over right? if thats it no..the linkage is a triangular, but it dosnt mount with the bottom going up or down it mounts like sideways, i might be able to flip it around so that instead of the mount pointing out it points in...but im not sure if the swingarm has room for that...i will check thought

ok i just checked and the way the linkage is set up looks like this < with the point in the middle being where the shock mounts, and the two other spots are where the linkage mounts the the swingarm..* cannot change the way it sits because the swingarm is like this linkage <| that up and down line is where the linkage mounts on the swingarm...i could do this |> but im not sure if that would work out because it would make the shock sit at a much different angle....and the shock spring might hit the swingarm....but a possibility..

The bottom of the shock where it connects is 30mm wide INSIDE. It uses a 10mm diameter bolt, same as the top but longer. On the bottom, the inside hight from the center of the bolt hole is 33mm. The top of hte shock is 29mm. Total lenght from center to center of hte bolts is about 14.75 inches. Let me know what else you need.

can * give me the measurements of that rezzie on the top of it, so i can know if it will clear the frame or not? the stock shock is already kinda tight in there

i was looking at my friends 400ex today and we rolled it up to my x, and the shock mounts look as thought they will fit, but the rezzie on the top is still the problem, i think that if i mount the shock the oposite way it is ment to go that it might fit but i am not sure, i might have to grind a little bit on my frame...

I don't know about the shock that were mentioned, but I can tell you how to hook up a 350x shock. It works really well and the only thing that is needed is a little fab work on the linkage.
Here's a link to a post I made about it a while back.
I was at one time making new custom linkages but don't really have any interest in making anymore.

Probably a half dozen on Ebay. Just watch out for the junk ones.

Im going through the samething with my 85 200x. I put a junk 85 250r shock in the 200x frame (just to test it). Problem 1 is that the top of the shock was too wide. I took a grinder to it to make it fit. Problem 2 the shock was too long. I took the 250r spring and replaced it with the 200x spring. I really just want to find a different shock setup.
I like the idea of a 350x shock however, how can you tell if your buying a good shock on ebay. I have bought 3 junk shocks in the past and Im just tired of buying junk.
I also may try a 400ex shock I think it may work.

yea i need a new suspension setup so that i can jump my 200x...was there any aftermarket suspension made for it? or any aftermarket suspension made for something else that would fit it??? im thinking maybe the 400ex aftermarket suspension would work because it wouldnt have that huge rezzie at the top...

spend a few bucks and send it to works.

Whats a few bucks? $400
I really dont mind spending the money but a high dollar rebuilt shock is way more than a 200x needs. A 250r for racing, yes but a 200x for trail riding, not for me.

Honestly if I had the money to get mine professionally rebuilt and revalved i would do it in a heart beat. But money is tight right now so its not happening. Also isnt a 250x and 300ex shock similar to the 200x? I could have swarn they were.

still kinda pieced out...it will eventualy become one..i will probobly be doing the 350x rear shock swap, is it possible to do that and use the 200x forks..and have a comfortable ride..??

It would probably be a comfortable ride, but when there is no one on the trike I bet it would have an uneven appearance. I'd have to say that If you do the conversion that you would not only need the front end, but you would also need an extended swingarm and the extended rear axle that you already have. Just to keep things proportional.
The problem with this conversion is...
If you only do the rear shock, it's going to raise the rear end and slightly shorten your wheelbase. Probably going to give an odd raised in the rear look, unless there in a rider sitting on it.
If you only do front end, it's going to increase the height in the front roughly 3" and since the 350x has a leading axle it will increase the wheelbase length roughly 3". This is going to give a raised in the front appearance with a slight "chopper" look.
If you do the front end and the rear shock, your swingarm is going to appear to be too short and at a slightly steeper angle then normal. Extending your swingarm will fix that.
If you do both you've added length and height with the front-end, and also added length and height to the rear-end. Now you have a longer and taller trike that is going to be tipsy in turns because it's now too narrow. An extended axle or wheel spacers should be considered necessary.
What I'm trying to say is, if your going to put a 350x shock in your 200x be ready. One thing will lead to another to get things stable and balanced. But, It is definitely worth all the work. If you do decide to do it, the shock, extended axle and the extended swingarm that you mentioned would be a really good start. But I think you'll find that your forks are now the weak point in your suspension.
Good luck!

thanks, i have a friend that can extend my swingarm and who will probobly do my linkage work to make the shock fit. but i will have to locate a front end..but isnt it kinda goofy having bassicaly a 350x just slower..?

It's goofy to think that simply adding a front end and shock it going to give you a slow 350x. I don't look at it that way at all. The way I see it is it's a 200x with awesome suspension and ground clearance. If your worried about your trike looking 350x'ish then all you got to do is keep the 200x headlight.
