Does any one know if these actually work as good as advertised (link below)
I have a 250R full rolling chassis and would like to build a 500R. I know they can be a b%^*h to start and I would rather it be fairly easy on my foot.

With the way thats bolted in there, you would think it wouls snag a ring.... :wondering I mean how its not smooth with the bore.

im sure that if you designed it all your local machine shop would be able to help you out and the would make it shaped to the bore as honda trikes rule said, i dont think rings snagging would be a problem unless you put the gap there. the hard thing to get the machine shop to make would be the valve to stop it realeasing compression the whole time.

Looks like it would work to me. There would be no problem with the rings, it would be just like every other port in the sleeve. As long as you chamfer it, then it will be fine.

well, the way I see it is if your too wimpy to kick it over to start the thing... You have no business riding it. :D

Does it come with the lever, cable and what ever else it needs?

I can tell from that comment that you have never tried to kick over a hi compression (i.e. shaved head) 500cc 2 stroke. Im a solid 5' 9" 200 pounds and it can be very painful to you foot after 3 or four kicks( I have actually worn holes in the soles of my shoes from kicking over a hi. comp 500 dirt bike). I do not wear riding boots which im sure would help. I havent found any wide enough for my feet, nothing but dress shoes or tennis shoes for me.

Consider welding a plate on that kicker somehow to make more surface area on your foot... don't sound like a whole lot of fun !!!

Believe me...some of these guys have no idea. I just bought a KTM 550cc two stoke and its a monster.

I am 200 pounds and I have to stand on a crate, with heavy boots, find TDC exactly and then sometimes I can start it.

Its just a whole other world....unreal!!

I'm probably going to install one of those kits on my 500 very soon. Since it's real close to me, i'm going to take my cylinder to them personally, so I can see a finished one. They do all the work and furnish the parts for $200. That's less than the cost of a broken foot!

My bike isn't really too bad to start, but it would still get old after riding it for an hour or so. I think the worst part is that it only makes one revolution when you kick it, where-as a 250cc seems to make two or three.

those 500's should come with electric start.

Let me know how it turns out after you get it done, I would like your opinion on the difference before and after. I am going to do this (500R conversion) regardless but I would really like to have the compression release installed if it makes a big difference.

Yeah me too Derrick, as everyone who seen me trying to crank mine at TF knows its a beast and a half to get it turned over and going. And its even stock compression! Leme know how it turns out and works.

It will out accelerate a full size 500. From what I have seen where a CR or KX 500 need 1st or 2nd to make it up hills this bike can go in 3rd.

Yes, its very impressive. The back end will get squirely on dry, grooved pavement if you accelerate the beast in 3rd.

Plenty fast but it needs to be geared up a bit.

(keep the classifieds in the classifieds section please)

You COULD get a 91 or newer cr500 piston for it, they have compression relife cuts into the piston..make it nicer to kick over....but even without on stock comp its not hard to get er going....but shaved thats a whole nother ball park....;)

on my atc 500 i had the head shaved and the cylinder base cut [shaved] to.it would take me about 25 or more kicks to crank it. right now i have 3 head gaskets and a unmilled head. now it takes about 10 kicks to crank it...so Derrick after you get this done to your cylinder PLEASE inform us...i called CT Racing and they told me that they drill 2 holes somewhere near the exhaust port and that releases some of the compression but when it starts the compression goes back to normal.and it only cost $45.00 plus shipping...

My buddy just bought an 87 CR500. When I ride that I wear boots and I really have to jump to get it to start, I weigh about 180. I have a bunch of 4-stroke 500's but they have compression releases.

Hey Tim, (250Rfanatic85) I found a full rolling chassis 250R, a guy brought it by the shop, it in real good shape. He also has a CR500 dirtbike, I went buy his house to look at it and the front forks are toast and it has no tires or wheels but it runs, it about broke my foot trying to crank it. He said it had a wiseco piston and shaved head. Trying to get a package deal, I'll let you know what happens.

Well, I kicked on mine for 45 minutes today and couldn't get it started. I'm pulling the motor this week to get that decompression kit installed. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I'll have to call them monday and see what the turn around time is.

Just a tip for the Cr500 owners, for easy starting ( 1 kick if the bike is tuned right) befor you start it put it in second gear, rock it back n forth so the piston repedily go's from BDC to TDC about 6 or 7 times, this gets everything lubed up and draws the gas into the crank case, in fact this will work with any 2 stroke but works nice with the 500 for lack of havin to kick it 3 times.......First kick everytime if the carb is tuned properly...works like a charm

on my atc 500 i have to slowly kick it to the foot peg, then pump it 2 times then kick the stew out of it...the second go round usually does the trick....

on mine, I just turn the choke on, make sure I dont give it any throttle, and then kick it as hard and as fas as I can with the tip of my boot. If it doesn't start in about 5-10 kicks, then I turn the choke off and hold the throttle wide open. If that doesn't get it to crank, I go back to the choke and repeat as necessary.
