I had custom made 3 Tiger seat pans and no one around here carries Grade 5 carraige bolts. WTF?? Each pan needs 4 bolts. Anyone know of a source where I can buy a box??

I wouldn't worry about using grade 5 to hold the seat on personally.

There is a company near Gettysburg, PA called Totally Stainless. You can get the stainless bolts of grade 9 if you want and they come polished! They have gotten alot of business from me for my Harleys, 3 wheelers and my VW's. Their phone # is 800-767-4781. Get their catalog, really nice people to deal with.

Lowe's carries Grade 3, 5 and 8 bolts. By the way, Grades 3, 5 and 8 are not stainless hardware. Stainless hardware is normally found in grades 18-8 and 300 series. We work with many types of hardware where I work, and this has been researched many times. Grades 3, 5 and 8 are gradients of steel hardware only. References to this claim can be found on the internet, or I can post them if you need them. Grade 8 is a stronger steel bolt than 5, and 18-8 Stainless would be a great upgrade, unless you are just trying to stay original, which I'm all for. Good luck in your search. You can always order from bikebandit.com or your dealer. James

I always thought that stainless was a softer metal than that of a graded metal. Is 18-8 a stronger grade of stainless? Same as a grade 5 or 8?
