Pumped up I'd say the 250R just because more mods are readily available for them. You can hop up anything though. It's just easier to find the stuff for an R.

86-86 tecate 3 is fastest stock.

and 85-86R fastest hopped up.

This is what I would say also. Have fun trying to find a 330 power valve cylinder for a Tecate.

Thats kinda funny that you say that Blown331 because Tunes just posted a number for a guy who makes a 330 kit for tecates under the "Where to get performance parts for 86-87 tecate", and im sure its powervalved cause the T3s came powervalved stock. Wierd coincidence.

**Takes foot out of mouth** lol. I didn't know they were power valved stock. All of them or just the 86-87? My brother has an 85 Tecate but I never payed much attention if it had a powervalve.

Your making a critical error comparing the 86/87 motor to the 84/85. Yes 86/87 are powervalved stock and almost identicle to the KX250 motors of 85/86.

84/85 are not power-valved. But they have phenomenal top-end power, even in stock trim.

Yeah, I don't know much about the Tecate's. My brother never rides his, I have no idea why. I'm off work the next couple days, I'm gonna go get it. It's mostly stock but it's pretty quick that's for sure. I know he has a couple aftermarket silencers, I think that is all that is done to his. He had a TRI-Z and the Tecate completey smoked the Z.

I can tell you right now with regret, my 85 (I think its stock) tecate is quicker then my 85 R (also stock). It gets it right off the snap, all the way through. Those are the only 2 I have so my comparison is limited.

I have an 85 250R so I could race my brothers Tecate. My R is apart at the moment. I'm taking the cylinder to get bored in the morning. I have some mods on mine though, we'll see if it's enough. He is stock.

I will let mywifeknowseverything give the comparison on the triz vs the R. If he sees this thread. I need to get better at racing, he was tough.

I've seen and done that same race and the R would usually win (stock 85's). The '85 T3 would jump out just a bit but get passed by fourth gear and by the time both were wide open the R was always pulling away pretty good. I'd say the R is about 7-10mph faster for top speed. A short fixed distance drag and the '85 T3 is very formidable though.

If I remember right, your R has an extended swinger. You actually lose traction with those to some degree especially in the dirt. No real reason to have one on a stocker imo.

I could see it, especially if you had the right rider. Like I said, I am not that good, but watch out, I am getting better. I was told the R has extremely weak 3rd gear, and after listening and learning, and riding it, I agree. I also agree with that 4th and 5th gear. I do have the extended swinger, I found I wheelie in 1st, but if I start second I do fine. (No lets not start the what we should start with debates) The extended actually help me win a few. But we were all sand......Dirt I have no idea. On my R I have a weak beginning to 1/4 throttle. The tecate I have has snap right off. Anything that had power behind it, I have no prayer. Stock to Stock was fun.

I Raced Craig (mywifeknowseverything) Tri-z. I really really fought him in third. As long as I held the holeshot I was Ok. As long as I got out of third fast enough, I was ok. Any other time, it was his. I dont believe he was extended, so I was able to pull off the holeshot, if he was extended, I think I would have lost more often. Again pure sand.

I have never really truley raced, till lately. So this is fun seeing what nifty trick you can try next to just make you slightly quicker. The shifting, the startup, all that goes into it.

I own both the 86R & 86 T-3. Both run great and the jetting is spot on. The R is faster in a drag race, lets say the first 100 to 300 ft. then the Tecate takes over in the topend. But if I had a choice I would not trade my R for 3 T-3's, Why you ask. Because the R is by far hands down the most well built and well designed 2 stroke 3 wheeler of all time, the R is darn near bullet proof, no one else is even a close second and thats something I dont think anyone can argue with merit.
