My brother in-law recently put my engine back together, and my timing to the exact. We started it up and noticed the kickstarter was "sticking", there was definatly some grindage. And when it was idling(like a dream, might I add) he hit the kickstarter on purpose, and it died. :wondering
So I took it around the yard, and it died. I kicked it over like 5 times, then it got really hard, and wouldn't kick over, like it siezed.
But after awhile of rocking it back in forth, it freed up and I was ab;e to kick it, but It was different. Back when it ran right, when I kicked it would be like:
put-put-put, or just 2 puts. But there was only 1: kapump, like it wasn't trying to fire. We took the kickstarter off, stator, and cdi cover off, and he said the timing was correct...
So, we busted out the 'ol john deer and pulled her around the yard. It finally started, but it ran like ****, and kept back firing. And it remains like this today. Bad valves?
I am at a loss with this....

My 250sx ran like **** all the time, but one day i was in my driveway and it locked up on me the sameway yours did, but after i left it sit, it ran fine (still shitty but better than your 200x it sounds). But for your ploblem I dont know what to say, just good luck.

sounds like something wasn't put back together right. did you put the large washers behind the kickstarter gears? you didn't split the cases did you?

No, we didn't split the cases. We took the kickstarter and recoil gear out, and it hasn't made that noise ever since. But it hasn't ran right since I locked 'er up.

So when you looked at everything in that cover, kicker, clutch, flywheel all that looked great? You need to find where the grindage came from.

was the top end taken apart ? timing chain .. valves out of the head.. etc......

would the piston hitting the valves cause such a thing ?

yea if you dont have your piston iin the right way it will hit the valves and that can be bad for both...i did it on accident with my 12:1 ..i put it in backwards...it ran fine but every once in a while it would tap really hard..i adjusted the valves to spec and it did it harder..well the stator went out..i didnt know it was that..so i took apart the while engine and noticed some grooves in my piston..i freaked pretty bad..fixed it put it back together and im waiting on a stator..lol..so the piston backwards will make a tapping sound..dont mean to steal your thread
