I just painted the engine and frame on my 83 185S and i disconnected the gas tank to get better access to the engine and frame. Well when i tried to reconnect the gas tank, i noticed that there was two hoses coming from the carb, does the tank connect to the hose going to the top of the carb or the bottom? and also putting it in either one the carb leaks like crazy and even some gas comes from the air filter box, is this because the float in the carb is messed up or what? im new at all this fixing up stuff so some detailed help is much appreciated. Thanks

You simply have your lines mixed up.
There are 3 lines on that carb.
1- to the tank
2nd is the side overflow
3rd is the bowl drain line.
2nd and 3rd just hang there.. but the 1st is the one that should be pluged in to the gas tank.
SWap the lines on the side.. leave the one at the bottom alone.

I got another problem, maybe what you guys said will fix it tho.... Is the float a cone shaped little piece of plastic that goes on a metal rod in the carb?... (sorry that i sound like a newby but i am) I put that back on the rod and started it up and it ran fine through out the gears but when idling it starts out slower than normal than the engine revs up to a point where its getting too loud. Also i started it again, and it won't idle at all, i had to keep pressing the gas and even then it died after about 2 mins of that. Any suggestions and also am i right about the float (cone shape orange piece of plastic) and where it goes? thanks

thanks, that worked, i had the wrong line like you guys said... all better. The fuel line from the carb was so short and it was right up against the frame so i didn't even see it. But i went looking for it and found it, now it idles perfect.. thanks again
