I may go with the stock 85 250R tires on the 500R. Can you still get them, and where at? How do those stock Ohtsu's wear when used regularly?

I need front and rear, by the way.

Honda dealer, or Service Honda. That's all I know.

Dammit!

Got my front R tire from service honda for $48. That replaced the stock tire that actually came with the trike so I'd say they wear pretty well. ;)

The rears though, you'll never get good traction with those on a 500R. I'd go with something much more aggressive.

LOL Mainetriker, not all of us have money to burn at the honda dealer like you on hondaline parts!!! Crap for the trikes is INSANELY priced there. One radiator shroud for my R was $53!?!?!

$35.52 at service honda for the exact same OEM part.

http://www.chaparral-racing.com/

They carry ohtsu tires. Including the stock tires off the ATC250R's, 350X's. and more.

My new factory shrouds and 86 style OEM decals from Service Honda a couple months ago pretty much killed a C note.

35 per shroud and 15 per decal.

It would have been allot more through a local stealer, bikebandit or partsfish.

Just think about what that stuff's gonna cost when it's discontinued! I finally broke down and bought some OEM fork boots for the 350X and 250R, cost me $48 a pair, but well worth it. And yes, service honda and chapparral still sell the OEM ohtsu and Dunlop tires for most honda trikes, less than $50 apiece.

I think I want the stockers on this one. I like the looks of the front tires and I want some tire spin from the rears. I would rather spin than wheelie. I ran a set of stock ohtsu's on the rear of the Z for awhile and they were great. Just punctured real easy.

I just bought the Dunlop KT-576 and KT-577 tires. They are the same tire as the Ohtsu tires. I just kind of like the Dunlops. Maybe just because of the names. I keep the stock tires on mine just because I like the way they look and the rounded side walls on the rear do not have the side bite that grabs and throws you off while sliding. My bike is nice and restored so I just like it to have the tires that Honda wanted it to have. They have the original look.

Dennis kirk has the dunlop tires that Mike Fort Laud is talking about. They tell what the tire is supposed to be stock for.

FRONT: Dunlop front (KT576) is an exact replacement of the Ohtsu original.

REAR: Ohtsu P/V 701Z rears are awesome. No, they don't hook up like my old Shredders but they slide "just right".....I can "steer with the throttle" now.
Whereas the Shredders would bite when you'd least expect it.

I KNOW the Ohtsu's are not as durable as the Shredders, Holeshots, Bandits, etc. since there is SO much exposed tire where the aftermarkets are so much more "heavy duty".
But I do like the control and GREAT RIDE I have with the Ohtsu's.

So which of these two brands would you say will wear better? Ohtsu or Dunlop? Or are they made at the same factory with different names? lol

I have NO idea which will wear better.
If I were to guess, I'd say they'd wear at a VERY close rate.
They're both well-known brands with a great reputation.

I guess I should rephrase that, what I was wondering is if the Dunlops are more puncture resistant than the Ohtsu's. It seems as if those things take thorns like they were designed too.

If memory serves me right, they're both 2 ply design with a LOT of "exposed" tire between the tread lugs.
If you want puncture resistance, you'll have to go aftermarket design with more plys and more lugs.
I was going for the original look, the slide-ability of the original Ohtsu rears and with durability a distant third.

Stick with Ohtsu. Carry plugs.

I believe the 85Rs had Dunlops while the 86Rs used Ohtsu tires as stock.

One of my 85Rs has the original Dunlop still with good tread and no age cracks. The other 85R has a 86R's Ohtsu front with plenty of age cracks on the sidewalls. This tire has good tread but will be replaced soon before it starts to leak air.

I'd recommend a Dunlop from tiresunlimited.
