Is it ok to have 2 trikes stood up on thier asses (behinds) while i travel to maine this weekend? Its a 4 hour drive max, and the gas tanks will be shut off and emptied.

Should i drain the oil out of them? I know some people store them up on their asses, but do you keep the oil in them? I know when you remove an engine from the frame, youre supposed to drain the oil, thats why i am asking.

Thanks all,

Mike

As long as the oil isn't overfilled and there are no leaks, you shouldn't have to drain it. Before you run them, just remember to let the machines sit level for an hour or so once you get there. This will allow all the oil to run back down to the oil pump. Be careful when transporting them standing up- it is difficult to properly secure them without damaging anything.

Also, and most important, is to cycle the engines over enough to refill the cam lobe pockets so that they are not running dry when you first fire it up. Standing the machine on it's rear will drain the reservior. Kick/pull the engines over, with the kill switch off, at least 10 times to fill the pocket with oil. Failure to do so could result in cam and head damage.

Your oil will probably drain out the vent tube behind the cylinder. My T3 was stored upright for a while before i bought it and there was a big oil stin underneath it and the crankcase was almost dry.

Bingo! Do this and you can ride right away without waiting any longer.

just leave them on their wheels.. put the 2 front wheels together with their rear at each end... takes about the same floor space this way as on the asses.

This will happen if the vent tube is short. Gets oil all over everything in the bed of the truck. Just make sure the vent tube is kind of long and point it straight up. That seemed to work for me on the way home.

If you have a full size truck you can load the first one in backwards then put the second one in front tire first with no problems, that is the way I transport the R and Tecate or 2 250R's. Hope this helps

If your vent hose is hooked up to your airbox.... check to make sure you don't fill the airbox with oil !!!.. lol..

just a thought !

Ive been storing trikes stood on end for many years. It does not cause any problems I know of.

2 strokes may be ok, but 4 strokes will drain the cam lobe pocket being stood on end....

Ive been doing it for years with 4 strokes, never had a problem.

my dad ended up not letting me take them...he said it changed the center of gravity of the truck, so i went atv less for the weekend...do any of you guys agree with this?

Thanks,
Mike

Well yeah it will change the center of gravity, slightly. But it sounds like a BS excuse to me too. Does your Dad realize the truck has a bed for a reason lol?
