ah on my 200x ... i pounded what I thought was the bearings out .. but now I realize the damn outer races are still stuck in there... and don't look like they are coming out anytime soon .. :S :S :S
Anyone know the "easy" way to get them out?

also anyone know the bearing # on them so once I go to buy bearings I can go to a bearing shop and get them cheaper?

Get ahold of Dads. he has the complete kit. I know exactly what you mean. the outer race for the bearings are still inside aren't they. this is what I did. I used a flat screw driver. I grounded the head of it down real flat. And hammered it inbetween the outer race and the inside of the swinger. It's a real pain but take your time. Work your way all the way around. Be careful not to bugger up the inside of the swinger. After I worked it around and down about half way use some good penetrating oil. spray the **** out of it the try to remove with long nose pliers. I hope you have alot of patience cause this process took me a good hour or so. After they were out. I used a dremel and smoothed out a couple gouges I made inside. I packed the entire hole with a good HD grease and installed the bearing kit I got from dads. I must say. between cutting the swinger bolt and tearing out the races had to be one of the worst jobs I've ever done on any ride.<--Just some words of encouragement. lol. Good luck. maybe someone else has an easier way.

The right way is to draw it out with a tool. a bit costly but if you have a few buddies to chip in it's well worth it.

This tool takes it out and puts it in. 80 bucks or so.

Probably could make one :wondering

Go to princess auto ( if you have one in your aerea ) and get a " Blind Bearing Puller " .

I used this on my SX and it went great.. 5 minutes.. had both sides out !

it's basically a slide hammer with various screw on tips with legs that spread.. you put the legs in the hole.. twist the nut to spread the legs.. and then once tight.. just slam it out.

nice and neat... !!!i have a picture of when i did my SX.. i'll try to find it !

Geez, I wish I would of known about that. For that price though how many times you gonna use it. The first set of bearings lasted 20 years. Or you can do what most people do. Use it then return it.

Well.. it's pretty universal... so charge your friends 5 $ every time they use it and eventually you'll have your money back..

The thing is mainly not having to fight with it and damage the swingarm etc.... any tool that makes life easier.. is worth having. I don't regret spending the cash one tiny bit !

just heat them up with a torch and they should pop right out.

would that effect the temper of the swinger's steel in any way ?

if the bearing is all smashed and rusted in there that puller might make more work for you. but good luck to you if you try it.

i usually use a dremel with a carbide burr if the only thing left is the outer casing. slice down the middle of it then take a dull chisel and bang it out. cutting it loosens them up. heating works too and shouldn't screw up the metal unless its too hot and melt it.

get a socket that fits in their and will catch the bearing and then put that in a vice and start turning it untill it moves this is how i took mine out or use the same meathod

put a socket that has the od of the id of the swinger and the socket will push whats left of the bearing out and you use a vice just like a press

Well I got them out .. took awhile .... I used the socket Idea...
Found out the hard way that the races cant be pushed out. There is a lip inside the swingarm and the bearings have to be pulled out. so that means I had to break both of the "lips" off one bearing race. Then I could pound the oppisite side out. I then got my friend to weld a tack on the inside of the other race and put the socket in that one and beat it out .. it all I got it out..
Broke one racket (beating on it..) cracked an extension and damaged my socket .. but atleast I got those damn things out :)

I still think " Right Tool for the Job ! " applies in most cases.

Yes .. it cost me 60 $ for the slide hammer tool... but it's a one time purchase. and I KNOW i'll have to do this again.. either on a trike or quad.. etc..... friends machines....... with low usage.. the princess auto tool should last me a lifetime of no-agrevation bearing removal !

On my SX.. i busted the cap that's behind the race.. and tried to beat the other side out but it would NOT budge.. no matter what.

the Honda dealer says to weld a bead around the whole race wich makes it shrink and fall right out.. but i don't have a welder handy.. and can't afford the one i want right now....

My neighbor's jaw almost fell to the floor when he saw how easy it was to yank that sucker out with the slidehammer after spending a WHOLE DAY fussing with his rancher.

I have a tool in my head that could be made... it involves a nut a washer and piece of steel tubing .. and then the tools to turn the bolt and hold the nut..
I think it would work... you can probably figure out what it would look like.
