I had to heat my lower shock bolt & nut cherry red with map gas to get off.
Does that ruin the bolt & nut or make it even stronger?
It looks fine but don't want to take a chance of the bolt snapping.
I'm sure the bolt and nut can't be more then a few bucks and am certainly willing to buy them but it has me curious how the heating cherry red effects them.

I think that will only help you strip the threads.
when you heat up steel it displaces the carbon making it harder, but more brittle.

So being a shock bolt that is under load, best to replace I guess?

if you had to heat it to get it out like that.. i bet it was in rough shape to start with.
I'd replace it and make it easier in the future if and when you need to take it back out !
Just a tip for shock linkage bolts and swing arm bolts, use waterproff greas, it will make it come apart like butter next time...normal grease dont cut it, just kinda comes out in water n junk..lol

Suprizingly it looked good after coming out but like I said, just was curious about the heat factor and yes, I do use water proof grease and antisieze on the threads also.
