yamahauler with 1st and reverse problems

i just got an 85 200yamahauler for free only problem is when its in 1st gear and reverse it bucks and grinds all the other gears are fine im wondering if anyone knows anything about this bike and what might be the problem. the bike is in awesome shape all the plastics and rubber fenders are original and no cracks entire electrical system works even the electric starter works so if it takes a little work to fix it im not too worried just wondering what direction to head in

just fixed mine doing same thing the second gear in the tranny is out mine did exactly like you are saying

200 moto4 was doing that,it was the linkage hooked from the handle to the tranny(used for reverse) out of adjustment..
