I havent ever seen another 83R other than mine. I was talking with my uncle who raced trikes back in the day, and he thinks that I have a 300cc head on my R. I told him that im positive I dont...but sionce I havent seen another 250R thats an 83/84 or a 300R I was wondering if there is any way to tell if I have one w/ out taking the motor apart. I have looked at pics of the Rs with and without, but I cant really tell. Any help is appreciated! :TrikesOwn :w00t:

I think the 300cc head uses 7 bolts to mount it the cylinder.

Errr.... lost my post... something to do with linking pics with my Earthlink Accelerator on!

Anyhow..... 2nd go.... the 300R motor is easy to pick out if you look at the head... 7 bolts instead of 6 (like was previously said) and the cooling fins are straight up!

Here's a pic of my 300R motor here... hopefully, I'll be able to find arrangements for a 82R roller I bought to make itdown to Trikefest from Saginaw MI, else I'll have to make a separate trip out to get it... anyhow... here's the pic of the motor I got here and also a 300R project article from 3Wheeling that Dean (oldfart) wrote back in the day...

hey 350Xn'NY do you have the rest of that article on the 300 kit, I'd like to read the rest of it. I have an 83R and I've been trying read as much as I can about the 300 kit, mainly what kind of performance to expect. I have the jug and head and I plan on running an 85-86R carb which I already have and DG national pipe which is the only thing I can find new and availible right now besides the NOS stuff that i find on ebay.

Yeah.... I can post the other stuff tonight.... not sure why, but I was having problems and then it said the files were too big... so I said forget it! hhahaa

The DG head is even easier to pick out.... most are still "gold' and have radial cooling fins. If you go to Trikefest, Holics 83R has a DG head.

Here's a comparison shot for you. The 300 kit is on the left and the other one is a stock 81-82 jug and head. I better hurry up and get the topend on for TF! Good thing the last of my parts showed up yesterday. :D

has anyone ever seen the liquid cooled head for the air cooled R's. I forget the maker of it but I have a catalog at my Dads house. I will have to go and find it. If I remember correctly it came with a new head, hoses and a little radiator. I think its called thermo cycle cooling.
