Hey guys, I've got an '84 Tecate with the popular non-working ignition issue.
I was looking on the Ricky Stator website and found replacement Stator coils.

My stator plate isn't broken or anything, I thought I could save some cash by rebuilding it.
My bike gets WEAK WEAK OCCASIONAL fire now...not enough to run.
I think my flywheel is OK I just really need to save $$$ where I can on this project.
Thank you in advance for any help you might offer.

If you have a good soldering iron, and a little experience, you will be able to replace the faulty coil no problem..

Thanks diggerzmound.....
So is it a pretty easy task to replace the coils...I can solder fine, and I can replace them just as they come out.
Do most people replace the entire stator due to damage or just an easy fix instead of replacing just the coils?
$40 for coils compared to $125-$100 for complete stator = I'll do a little soldering.
I'm just nervous about possibly wasting 40 bucks and then have to buy a complete stator.

I was having spark problems and got my coil from hyperparts. com. I didn't replace it myself but now I don't have a spark problem anymore. I'm not sure if that website has the coil for the tecate but I only paid $8 for mine.

some people don't have the skill to replace just the coils. and some of his stators are higher output for the lights. and the wires could be frayed or cut. this way evrything is brand new not 15 years old! :)
if thats all there is to replace on a tecate stator it should be fine. but also check all of the wiring from the stator, for fraying.

you can also bring it to a good electric motor place that can rebuild motors and rewind them...they could hook you up....
