:?: Hi everyone. I am new the site and had a question. I bought a running 83 ATC 250R the other day and I am not really sure of how to mix the gas and oil, also what kind of oil is recommended. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.......Tim

Mix the gas and oil in a 5 gallon gas can. Stock ratio is 20:1 for the honda 250r, but most people run 32:1 with synthetic oil. I perfer Blue Marble oil over anything on the market for 2 cycles. It is a little costly, but it does everything they claim! I know, because I use the stuff and it is awsome! I gained 300 rpm's on my 02 ZR600 snowmobile after 1 hours use of this stuff. It is amazing. Check out the articles about it at www.nulubes.com.

get an oil that has one mixture recommendation. some cheap oils will give you a chart on different ratios. i use amsoil at 80:1.

The multiple mixture charts are to help you tell how much oil you need to put in per gallon to meet your manufactures specifications, it's not because it is cheap oil. I am an amsoil dealer and if you are running that amsoil at 80:1, then you are asking for a meltdown. You DO NOT mix to what the oil says on the bottle, you mix to the manufactures recommendations. Just because amsoil says 100:1 or injection, it doesn't mean you can put 100:1 in everything that uses mix gas. Honda says 20:1 so go with that. Most people go with 32:1 for less fouling.

Whats so funny about it? It's the truth. I can bring up about 6 different motors that I have seen seized from not running enough oil in the mix.

32:1? That would translate into how many ounces of oil to a gallon of gas? May be a stupid question, but I am not really knowledgeable about this type of thing. Thanks

Four oz. to the gal for 32:1. There are several ratio measuring devices. The one I have shows what line to fill to per gallon. And there are several different ratios on the container. This makes it easier if you are trying different ratios to see which works best. These measurers should be sold at any bike shops.

32:1, for example, means 32 parts of gas to 1 part of oil. to find out how much oil (in ounces) you should use for one gallon of gas for a particular ratio (20:1,32:1,40:1,etc.), divide the first number (20,32,40,etc) by 128. 20:1 is 6.4oz. 32:1 is 4oz. 40:1 is 3.2oz.

also remember that when you make the gas/oil mixture richer (20:1 instead of 40:1), that makes the air/fuel mixture going through the carb's jets leaner.
