View Full Version : 84r dg head pipe comments
i bought a dg exhaust about a year ago. the header looked like a copperish color finish. similar to the color of the headers ive seen on some tri-z's. the finish on my pipe is just peeling/chiping of and then rusting. ive seen this in some pics of other aircooled r's. anyone delt with this? fixed it? do they offer different finishes? it kind of urks me cause it really looks like crap. im about to go out and just buy a new one. i just figured the finish on the pipe should last longer than a year and a half.

The best thing you could do is have it ceramic coated.
I do have some rust on mine but have not taken it off and painted/coated it yet.
For The Price Of Reconditioning A Old One You Can Buy One New. This Is Were Im Getting. To Chrome A Pipe. Your Into Some Bucks. I Was Wondering If There Were Any Preventative Maint. Or A Cheap Solution.

Thats the exact pipe I had on my 84R. I used to use steel wool to clean it up nicely but like stated, if you ride them, its almost impossible to keep the head pipe clean and pretty.

Hey Max, we should do some sort of a "Group Deal" with this company!
http://www.jet-hot.com/
It's a form of coating that they've been using in the automotive industry for awhile now. It's similar to ceramic coating, but you can handle it and the finish LASTS! They also coat the pipe inside and out, so it won't rust from the inside. This also increases performance by changing exhaust temperatures.
They do a set of automotive headers for around $250 so I would say we could get an expansion chamber done for around $150 or less. I have a couple to get done this fall. I bet we could get a smokin deal on multiple pipes. Read up on it!!
