this was my first post about the problem

http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=34320&highlight=clutch

since then i had a guy take it apart and look at it, he said he just put it together again, reajusted it and it worked good. But then it slowly started to drag a little and then it got worse and now it isnt disengaging at all.

I think I have an idea of what it might be, I was thinking it could be the ajuster inside the engine backing off a bit. i might try to put some locktite on it or something.
what other things should i check for when i'm in there?
If the plates were worn out, would the clutch be slipping and not grabbing?

thanks

If your oil is in good shape, and of the right weight, the most common cause of a manual clutch that will not disengage is grooving worn into the clutch basket. Some signs are that its hard to downshift under load, engine screams when coating downhill with clutch pulled in, very difficult to shift into neautral with engine running, and bike not moving, and you can feel a pull or drag when you rev it while in gear with the clutch pulled. Also, the symptoms are worse when its hot.

I know it is just about imposible to shift into neutral when the bike is running. When I had the clutch basket off, I checked it for groves, it had small ones, but I don't think it was really that bad.
It used to move forward a little when the clutch was pulled in and you revved it up, but now the clutch does nothing. To get it in first, I had to rev it up and pop it in gear. I had the clutch pulled in but even when I let it out, it made no differance.
I was just wondering if it was possible for the ajuster to back out or something.

There is an adjuster, and cable adjustments, but they are simply to take out the slack. What does it feel like when you pull the lever? Do you feel the springs compress when you pull it? How much slop is in the lever pull? You should be able to pull the lever in with just a little bit of slack, and then you need about half a pull of spring compression to disengage. The adjustments will not cause a disengagement problem unless you have more then half your lever pull as slack befor eit begins to pull and compress springs.

It doenst take much of a groove to give you problems, and they are often hard to see until the disks are removed. You didnt mention what type anf weight of oil you are running. It should work fine with any 10w30/10w40 but if you dumped in some 90w automotive gear oil or something it will give you these same problems.

Worn out clutch fibers and disks will slip, but they will not give you this type of problem.

This is an old post but...
When I took it apart a long time ago. Reajusted it and put it back together, It worked for a little while then slowly screwed up again. If it was grooved, would it just not work off the get-go, and not slowly screw up.

I am running 10-30 oil.

When I pull the lever, It feels like nothign is happenign, It is getting the full pull though, because I tried to push the lever on the crankcase further, but it is as far as it goes with the clutch pulled.

I'm stumped....
