I just bought a 1982 honda 200 atc and it has the split rims. I have been told I need the wide bead tires from honda. Can I use standard tires if I seal the bead. The tire size is 25x12x9. I only paid $50 for it and it is in good cond.

Thanks

i put any tires on split rims. i dont think it makes a diff. we have put knobbies, swampers, buckshots, boogers, others.

why does it say on the 200x front tire, 'DO NOT USE ON HONDA SPLIT RIMS'

Doesn't seem to bother... when I got my 82R, the front tire said "Not for use on Honda 2 piece rims"... looked like it was on there for a long time... and still holds air!

Looks like I can use any tire style. How about sealing along the bead, should I use rtv or anything else? I plan on using rtv between the rim halves.

Thanks for the info.

the tires that say dont use honda split rims we put them on there before and they work fine. put some rtv or better one of the orings made for them in between the halves. i wouldnt put any on the bead though. maybe some of that sealing grease.
