Got my "new" 250SX home last night. The gas tank leaked, and has some rust inside, more than I like. I patched the leak, and cleaned the tank up. But, I'm afraid it's just a matter of time before it springs another. I had a plasic tank on my old 200, can you get those for a 250sx?
If so, what would they cost?
And what would a new metal tank cost?
I'm putting an inline gas filter in tonight and I'm going to ride it awhile to see if there are any major problems, before I sink alot on cash in it.
But so far I'm pretty happy with it.
Maybe I can get a pic up of what it looks like now, it's a little "different" from most I see here on the forum. The last two owners used it for utility around the farm, and it's setup that way.

have you tried ebay for the tank. these should be either a replacement plastic one or a good condition second hand metal one.

Do the plastic tanks look alright on the 250sx?

plastic ones are about 135. you can seal the tank with a kit from por-15. that will take care of the rust issue as long as the holes aren't too big. go to por15store.com.

Found a new plastic tank on E-bay for about $150 + shipping.
I would rather buy local, I'm going to call a couple of parts outfits
I have dealt with before (bike junk yards). But I patched the tank
with some epoxy in a few places, got the bike to run. The engine
runs very well. But the tank is going to be a problem until I replace
it. Had to blow rust out of the petcock two times and I didn't even move the trike yet. Even the bottom of the petcock bowl had a leak! Someone had cut thru the soft metal at the nut trying to get it loose. Might have to rig me up a tank to test out the rest of the trike this weekend. I have an old snapper mower in the barn, might shag the tank off it for a day or two!
Thanks for the input. I've used the tank seal product's before, they work very well if the tanks not too far gone to start with, I'm afraid this one is too far gone.
I didn't realize it was this bad when I asked before.

FYI, I was able to locate a local shop that can order me a new plastic tank for $129, no shipping! Seems like a really nice shop to do business with. Should have it next week.
