How do you take the forks out?

The other weekend I was taking my tire off the front of my SX and the only way to do it was to take most of the air out and squeez it by the right fork (if your sitting on it). So I though to myself why dont you take that fork off and just take the tire off that much easier. Well i took all the bolts off and with a rubber hammer I was pounding away at the top of the fork. I even spread the trees a little to help take pressure off the fork. Shouldn't it just slide right out or is there a secret I dont know?

You took all 8 of the bolts out right? (on both sides)

Oviously the front end must be off the ground.

If you did all those things, try putting some lubercant in between the forks and triple clamps then hit them.

this is extensive but wrap a shop rag around the fork leg thats in between the tripple clamps, use a pipe wrench and slower apply pressure to make it turn, if it starts to turn grab the fork below the tripple clamps and pull down at the same time. doing this should make the forks come out

I have also used a big fat dull chisel to slightly seperate the tree where it clamps dows. I put it in the crack and tap it a couple times, then they are loose. Doesnt hurt anything.

yeah thats what i usauly do is get a fat chisel or a screwdriver and pry them open a little bit and tap them out it usualy works pretty easy

I used the screw driver before to help separate the forks but I was in a rush so I didnt apply lubricant. Ill try the turn and pull method if lubricating doesnt help. Thanks Everyone

i shut the gas off stand it up on the grab bar, unbolt the axle the oen with the 4 lil nuts, and take off the little cap, then use one of thise strap wrenches from sears, thier liek aplastic handle with a rubber strap, know what i mean, but if its fogot a cap on th etop with a place for a socket or wrench, i turn it as if i wer etightening and leave the socket on it and give it a little tapity tap with the ol hammer, but i watch out and make sure it stayes on there cause * dont wanna mes sup the valve at the top of the forks. that sjust my .02 cents, and a few diffrent ways ive done itin the past.

If they are bent at all then they are that much harder to get to slide out.
