Hey guys I want some more low end power, I do alot of trail riding and hardly ever get out of 2 or 3rd. But if I have to climb a big hill or something, seems like I never have enough low end. I have to feather the clutch and often I stall it. I am used to 4 strokes. Should I just get a biger rear sproket? Or what? Thanks.

I have an '81R and it has factory gear ratio and I'm running 20" tire, 2 inches shorter than stock and that thing is a billy goat in the trails. If you are having problems going up hill with you 250r, crack the throttle open and it might help ya out. If you wnant nothing but bottom end 2-stroke torque, get a quadzilla or any big bore 2-stroke out of a dirt bike and stick it in a trike chassis.

That's almost unbelievable. My 83 has TONS of torque. I have a 12 tooth front sprocket and 20" rear tires. The key to climbing with a 2 stroke is tire spin, or momentum.

if you still needed more low end you could probly get it ported for low end and you could also get a low end pipe. you could also try smaller back tires and going down a tooth in the front and up some in the back

before i had my 85 i had a 83R i had geared for trail riding before i switched to dunes, i had stock port milled head, stock carb, stock pipe, 13-41 gearing with 20 inch kendras, open air box with a k/n filter, i know it doesnt sound like much but my cousins raptor and i would go all over the hills in homeland california and we had about the same power, even when i had it ported polished milled to 22cc dome stock carb jetted, and answer silencer for the sand i ran 13/38 gearing and 20 inch sand snake paddles.

In addition to the gearing choices .... you might want to consider a reed block spacer - before the cage. It'll help move the powerband of the motor "south".

Air foolers have tons of low end, I bet your used to "crawling" up hills on the thumpers. Try dropping a tooth on the front sprocket. Your gonna have to change your riding style.. The trick is, Get some RPM's and speed, and keep them tires moving, and if your stuck in the middle, your gonna have to be pretty rough on the clutch.

i agree, i have an 83r and it sucks in low end. badly . if i am climbing a hill i have had xr80's passing me up. i really have not worried about it too much. but i am getting a 34mm flat slide, 86 reeds and a performance exhaust. that should help it along. but i stll need rear brakes.
