Here is a few more pictures of my homebuilt trike. 400cc's of fun. I changed a few things since my last pics of it. I went to a monoshock in the rear, and tucked the wheelie bar up furthor and out of the way. I also got pod filters and made some baffles, and lowered the seat, and put straigt bars on. (it had ape hangors before) Narrowed it 3" too, it was 53" wide before, way too wide.

Here's some pictures of the homemade, my tri-moto, and my minibike. I was clocked at 35.22 mph with the minibike with the front wheel 2 feet in the air. I widened the tri-moto 3", it handles MUCH better now. Sorry the quality is so terrible.

very nice home made!!
I am currently planning a homemade myself, how comfortable is that bike seat?? It looks like it could be comfy, but it may not be, but lack of close up picstures make it hard to tell, (hint hint hint)
Can you possibly give a better close up on the rear end??

Let me know if you ever want to sell that Tri-moto. I've been looking for one for some time now. Is it a 175 or 125?.
400ccHomemade
05-02-2005, 05:18 AM
The tri-moto is a 125 and it is a heck of a lot of fun. It's fun for wheelies. The seat on the homemade is the stock motorcycle seat, and it is very plush, very cozy. It was recovered right before I bought the bike.

Ok. Opinions wanted. I mostly play around with this trike. I play in my field, doing wheelies and tipping on it's side, and boondocking in my woods. And I also ride my dirt roads in the area, we have more dirt road in my area than asphalt. It is a lot of fun, but, it is a heavy, FAST vehicle. And I really shouldn't be tear-assing around my neighborhood, but that's what it is good at.
Now, onto the question for the public. Local to my area here, we have a lot of ATV drags. I looked into the rules, and I would be competative in the mod class. I would have to do some modifying though. If you try to take off fast from a dead stop, you CANNOT keep the front wheel down. You also can't keep the front wheel down in 2nd or 3rd. A.k.a, it's dangerous and a WILD ride to drag race. So, I was considering extending the wheelbase, regearing it for drags, and making it a drag-only bike. If I did this, I really couldn't "play" with it around the yard/woods anymore. But it would be a hell-of-a cool toy to race agaist the 4 wheeled guys. What do you think? Yard toy, or dragster?
Wickedfinger
05-02-2005, 02:31 PM
Dragster - I would fabricate some wheelie bars and have at it at down at ATCO or Maple grove. What model bike is the motor from?. If its a 70's or early 80's mill, I wouldn't think it was putting out more than 30 or 40hp. but I would still go for it.

No, no, grass drags, no asphalt. It's an 82 model 400.

make the wheelie bar Spring loaded.. and firm enough to keep the front wheel no more than a few inches off the ground.

Id say make a wheelie bar with 2 off road tires on it or if you are gonna decide id say Yard Toy

Well, I made a few mistakes, but it's too late for me to change the whole thing now. You'll notice in the pictures, the rear end looks really......."busy". I used a 1" axle, and it is too thin. Way too thin. I origanally used 2 generic pillow block bearings, but whenever I ripped on the gas, the axle flexed and the chain skipped. So, I added another pillow block bearing right next to the sprocket. Still flexed. So, I added ANOTHER pillow block bearing on the other side of the sprocket. So now I'm up to 4 bearings. All axle flexing is gone now. Then I bent the axle from jumping it. So, I moved the rear wheels in 1 1/2", that problem solved. Then I realized with the monoshock, the rear end wants to twist. So, I had to do some triangulation back there. Then I added the wheelie bar. Thats why the rear end looks like such a cluster-fudge.
Bottom line, I am looking for a complete atv or trike rear end to start from scratch and clean things up back there. The way it is it's functional, but I don't like the way it looks.
It's not as heavy as it looks, I can easily lift the front or rear end right up and over a log or whatever.

what a rude thing to say- i think its cool that its homeade. Not many people even have the ambition to do anything like that. Its a very creative project. I think you should do whatever you want with it. My only suggestion would be to paint it up a little. if i had more time and tools, i would try to fab up something like that myself. Very cool and very original- my hats off to you

Normally, I would say something to the effect of:
"Don't mind Mr. Mints comments - if it isn't some (funnily enough almost one off just like your's) exotic framed, specialty sand slinger that would have no hope of making it through a real atv environment like back east here where we have something called trails where it actually takes talent to navigate, thinks every person in the world would just have to see because he thinks its the greatest thing since sliced bread machine".
However ..... you did ask for comments and opinions ..... with no caveat like "please no negative". So, I would have to say "Game on" to this. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad in life. However, I do agree the same could have been said with "I don't like it - I think it looks unsafe".

Grip or gripe?. I do want to know something though - why would you wish bodily harm on the poor guy?. I mean, it may be a cobbled together mis-mash hunk of Japanese metal - something thats not my cup of tea in any way - however, the dude probably put his heart and soul into it and hes proud of it - why would you fault him for it?. I guess I just don't get it. Hes not like some of these guys on here who have a machine that once was probably great - but due to lack of maintenence, care, or caring - is now a horrendous abomination held together by duct tape.

Grip...kinda like Bob Dole and a pencil...sucker just won't let go..... :D
might I take a moment of your time.....
I've been ripped six ways to Sunday on this board...everytime I turn around Howdy's whacking me upside my head with his "complainer" stamp..so much so it's stuck in between my eyes....I dont let it bother me...it is what it is...I'm not running for the nearest bridge to cast myself over the rail or rallying sympathy on my behalf....
he acts like a victim after i said nothing wrong ...he either has a complex or is taking long rips off a bong back behind the cement pond.. :D
someone can turn it on you too....even after he tells you "it's Heavy and Fast" you say "go for it" someone can conclude that your statement is wishing him bodily harm also.....it's all how you look at it...
so i first tell him to be careful and then I retract it....thats it...don't read into anything more.....quit asking, "WHy do you wish he hurts himself."...I feel the only way he'll learn is like "ALL OF US" learn...by our mistakes....
he should just quit tweakin' on that thing and put his energy toward making money, then he can go out and get himself a nice 3wheeler...one that is safer that that thing he's wrenching on now :TrikesOwn ...Has that ever crossed your mind? :wondering
I'm not trying to make it an east/west thing either

I dont think wicked finger was saying that he thinks it IS a cobbled together mis-mash hunk of Japanese metal , but that some people might think it is. I dont know, either way i wouldnt worry about it. This whole thread is like a pancake, no matter how thin you make it, it will still have 2 sides. Some people think it's better of melted down into nothing and then there's people like you and I that "get into it". I dont know if you saw the pics of my modified/redneck 110 chopper on here but that thing is pretty "home made" if you ask me. I bet alot of people look at you funny when your riding that dont they? The sure look at me when i'm riding my chopper 110 or one of my 6ft tall bikes. I personally dont like alot of attention but i think it's awesome when your riding something you have put so much time, thought, and effort into and everyone is like "WHOOOA thats bad arse" or "what in the world is that thing". I had a suzuki lt160 4-wheeler that i used parts from and made an 11 foot long 2 seater go-cart that has electric start, reverse, hand shifter, runs about 50 M.P.H and does some of the funniest donuts i've ever seen. It's no wider than the original 4 wheeler was and one person sits close to the ground in the center on a van seat and then the other person sits behind the driver and above the driver on the original 4 wheeler seat. The whole time i was building it, people would see it and be like "that thing will never work" blah blah blah. That just made it even sweeter for me, it made me try harder and make sure everything worked good. I Just like proving people wrong when they say i CANT do something or it wont work. I didnt mean to write a half page but it's people like mymint that keep me making out of this world, crazy looking things. Like i said though, there is going to be people that hate it and people that love it.
