Nice find, not many of those around anymore. If anyone is interested, I know where you can get get a super clean I mean super clean 82R for $700.00 the guy lives 2 miles down the road from me. Im not trying to make a dime on it, I posted it before but didnt get a response. It's the cleanest 82R i've seen since the 80's, all original no rust anywere the gas tank is still shiny, original tires, plastic is almost perfect (maybe a light scratch or 2)

ok we are home with this clean 1981 (not a 1982) 250r here's a few more pics. As for cosmetics it is in very very good condition other than the fender decals and the one decal on top of the tank that says 20:1 on it. It also could use a new decal on the exhaust guard but the one thats on it isnt horrible. I dont know if the inside of these gas tanks were this clean when they were new! :D I opened it up and WOW i looked in and couldnt find one spec of rust in the tank what so ever. The decals on the side of the tank are also in excellent condition along with the seat cover, all the fenders, headlight shroud, rear mud flaps, head light guard, triple trees ..... the pics dont do this trike justice. It really surprised me with how clean this trike is overall and i still cant believe i got it for what i did. It supposidly ran when he parked it (outside unbelievably) a year and a half ago. Hopefully I will be able to clean the carb, check the tranny oil, check for loose nuts and bolts, and have it running. Here are some pics we just took of it. Nice isn't it? :naughty:

Gotta love those first-gen 250R's.

You did real good.
That thing ought to be fun to ride AND an easy resto.

Congrats! :beer

That is in pretty decent shape...nice find. I'm just wondering though...Would there be anyway to put a later model front end on that to run the skinnier tire? That might be something worth considering. But I like the "stock" look. I just think with all that power under you a skinnier front tire might help it handle a little better.

well stock it will stay as this is a dream machine from my teenage yrs. Just might put a aftermarket exhaust as the original is in great shape but never liked that look. I went all through this when got home and the only mechanical problem is a froze up throttle cable so that a minor fix will have this trike at trike fest 05 and it will not be restored till winter

well worked the throttlecable loose today (was stuck) took apart clutch unstuck the disc re-assembled then 2 kicks and was running. This thing runs great as it looks never more than 1 kick to start after warmed up. now to get new tires and the airbox lid will be already to tear up some turf

Does my heart good to see someone else praising the 81 250r's. Mine is in pretty good shape and still does a great job keeping up with and passing newer quads..

Whoa Whoa Whoa.... you are getting rid of those OEM tires? Does your trike have the 3 bolt hubs/rims I take it? I got one 3 bolt rim... iffy shape. If you are going to junk those rims, get yourself a set of 83-84 hubs and you can use the regular 4-110 bolt pattern. I know someone here that wouldn't mind a set of the OEM rims/tires/hubs for an 81. ( and no... it's not ME ... not part whording.. no matter what some tell you! hehehe) I love the original type tires... just not the 3 bolt pattern.

My rear tires are "Kings Tires". Think they are 20x11x8's. The tread looks like little "H"'s..

Thanks for the compliments. :D

Will do, but chances of finding one is slim to none. The only Tiger 500 I have ever seen in person was back in 85 or 86 and it was at the Dealership down the road from my house, not sure if it ever sold tho. By the way, the first set of pics you posted didnt do you 81R justice, in the second set of pics it looks much cleaner. Great find. :TrikesOwn
