Yes...they made the 200cc sleeve down kits to run 250R's in the 200cc class. Get a mic and check the bore on that thing, you might be running a 200cc kit and not even know it!

85 motor was black, 86 silver. First time I've seen a Selvys silencer on a non magazine R. Definetly crack her open and check the bore size. Maybe you just have a cylinder that was worked over by Selvys. Really interesting.

The transmission gears are different on a 85 compared to a 86.

Stop guessing, dang.
85 was black, 86 was gunmetal.
Selvys did a heck of alot more then the 200cc conversion, and their 200cc motors werent done with just a sleeve, they had a whole mess of mods throughout the motor (crank, tranny, etc). I remember reading the 3wheeling mag that showed a step by step procedure (with lots of pictures) of what went into selvys 200cc motors. Infact, waterpumper has that magazine now If I remember correctly.
I've seen the silencers, and some cylinders on ebay before. Most likely the R just had a owner that was a selvys fan and used all their aftermarket goodies. But you never know till you crack that thing open :D .

They had a mod where they cut half of the exhaust spigot out, lowered the floor of the exhaust, then welded it back together. I don't remember what it accomplished but it was supposed to be potent.

Selvy did my 200R. Anybody could sleeve a 250 to a 200. Selvy kept the 250 bore, but cut the cylinder shorter, and they use a shorter stroke crank. A big bore short stroke motor will rev quicker and be better on the track. I would like to find a Selvy silencer like that. That is cool.............Mike
