Broke my '82 R's swinger at Badlands and couldn't find an aftermaket one so I built my own. I cut the bearing carriers out of the stock swingarm and mated them to 2 pieces of rectangle tubing. Haven't got the shock mount done yet, but I plan to use a 350X shock. What do you guys think. Keep in mind I am not the best welder.

its not how smooth your welds are, it's how good they hold up ;)

ryan next time leave a gap for the wild to go in like 1/8 inch or min of 1/16 and more heat or slower wire speed. if it dont brake cant all be bad !!!!

just keep checking it for cracks around the welds, what size wall is that rect. stock? if its what i think it is, it has to weigh like 30 lbs

Defiantly more heat. By the looks of the bead I doubt there was much penetration. I like where it's going but I'd seriously cut them off and try again. The last thing you want is your swinger falling off while you’re riding.

The welds on the carrier had good penetration because they melted through the carrier and part of the tubing. I made 2 welds one to fill the gap between the carrier and tubing and another over top of it. I doubt it will crack.

Yeah its heavy stuff. 3/16" I think, I sure will stand up to some abuse though.

If you are going to use a 350X rear shock, try to use the 350X geometry. The 82R shock is nearly vertical! Also, I'd get the "gee - I'm a tree" all figured out and mounted and THEN weld on your rear brake bracket to the swinger.

It's looking pretty good. I just need to find the time to switch all the parts from my 81 250r over to my spare 82 250r frame. And I found a 6" extended swinger in the box of parts I got with my trike.. Whoo Hooo!!! :D
