Found one for sale today. here is what I saw.

missing headlight and shell
non factory handlebars
missing taillight
missing grab bar
painted tank
the big one was NON power valved motor
missing airbox-had a clamp on uni

on the plus side

clean
all plastic intact-few cracks, nothing major (except headlight shell!)
brakes good
tires decent-not keepers though

called the number----kid wants $1300 and justifies it by whining about putting 2 grand into it.

I think Its TOPS worth $500 probably less, possibly $500 IF he has the missing motor and other parts.

What do you guys think??

... he put 2K into it and its still in that shape?. Stick to your guns. He wont get that much for it until he actually spends 2K on it.

Unless he takes 500-700 hundred for it I would stay away from it without the KIPS motor or unless you come across a motor for a really good price. There was a 1986 TECATE on ebay today ---the guy said he would take 800 in his ad -- which even with shipping would be a much better deal than the one you found. I tried to contact him to buy it but --he never emailed me back and the bids were up over 600 on my last check with 6 days left . It should go way over 800 unless he ends it for what he originallly wanted but twith the bids I doubt that.

The guy on E-bay with the Tecate is also selling a pretty nice '86 R. The Tecate looks a little beat but the plastic looks good except for the gas tank. I wonder what it will go for? He wants $2500 for the 250R. It will be interesting to see if he gets it.
