I want a new one, the power this thing puts out is pretty good, but I'm already looking for more speed. Are the old 80's 250 2 stroke dirtbikes a good replacement? I mean, is there much I have to do to get htem in? Also, I am kind of looking specifically for 2 stroke motors, because i don't the engine to be much bigger because I like the weight it is now.

Sell the X and look around for an R.

if you want something that small nimble and has quick steering and is a lot quicker than most people would expect, put a 125cc 2 stroke in you 200x chassis. whether you put a water cooled or an aircooled in there it's gonna rock. I know it would be the fastest at any riding spot, but it would be a blast back in the trails. and ya never know it might just the right combination to smoke a lot of other atc/atv's in the trails.

I still say that for the money and work involved with finding a 250 pinger and all accessories.. fabing mounts etc......... it would be an advantage to simply sell the X for as much as possible and find a good 85 86 R ready to rip.. that should satisfy your need for speed.

thats what i think too, to fit a 125 2 stoke into the 200x frame you have to cut and reshape/move the down tube and a hole other bunch of stuff....why bother, even with a 125 dirt bike motor it wont be all too fast....i say just get an R Tri-z or T3

Whats a good motor to put in my 200x? A good running 200X motor is the perfect engine for that trike.

Ahhhhhh... you beat me to it! hahha. I know a 250R air fouler woun't work... it's drive chain is on the Right side.

I know I should get a different one, but I don't have the $$$. Also, it's my B-day gidt, so I can't just sell it. And I hate the fact that blasters can outrun me.

i have done this several times. i love mismatching engines. find a trashed dirt bike and check out the motor. i have lucked out several times. make sure the drive is on the right side. get some scrap meteal and fab some brakets. it really is not hard unless you ut something way bigger in there. i would stick to a 125. or find and old school 185. that would be pretty fun.

Back in the early 80's my father put a watercooled CR125 2 stroke motor in a 200x and went flat track racing with it. Him and Whychen/Marts old man bought a 200x each BRAND NEW and chopped out the 200x motor and put in the CR125 motors.

He had to change the front engine mounts and make way for the exhaust and radiator but still managed to bring it back to standard trim when he sold it. I have some VHS videos of it from back then and it was beating aircoolded 250r's. Still couldnt catch the Tri-z 250's or greenhumans 250r with a CR450 motor!

A 125 cc motor should fit no problem. As stated Before you will need to do some Rigging but im sure you expected that. Or you could go with some 4 stroke thunder. Im sure there are alot of 4 wheeler motors out there that would work great. Honda has some nice Quads in that engine size. I like 4 strokes

Not to be stupid but why would you put a smaller engine in??

it would be faster and have more power. he is referring to a 125 2-smoke.

I would see if a 230 quadsport motor would fit in there. Those things are insane.

Yeah, insanely underpowered. He would be better off with a 200X motor - they are both rated at 12hp and he wouldn't have to deal with the sideways kicker. I have heard of 250X/300EX conversions - that might be an idea. You would pick up about 4/5 hp, right off the bat. If you pipe it, a bit more.

Hmmm. I guess I know what I'm bringin to trikefest

a 350x engine would be too big i think...a 2 stroke would be your best bet. maybe try a blaster engine, huge aftermarket supply and quite a good engine.

You guys are nuts talkin like any motor swap would be easy. The 350x, 250x and 300ex motors are all about the same size and would be big enough to require some fab work. Out of the 3 the 350X motor would be the easiest because of it's dual exhaust, the other 2 motor's exhaust would run right into the frame. The 230 is another flop without serious mods due to it's exhaust running right into the frame too and as said before it would be kind of a pointless swap anyway. The 230 is no powerhouse and the 200 has more mod options. The 125 sounds cool but if you have an 83-85 200x forget about it unless you want to rebuild the whole front of the frame. Also custom pipes aren't cheap and by the time you add up all the little things you would have spent more money then just selling what you have and buying an R. If your heart is set on this conversion and your willing to spend the time and money then go for it. If your looking for cheap power(cheaper then buying an R, Z or T3) then forget it, your wasting your time.

If you really want a 2-stroke in there, look for a CR125 motor to swap in it.

A XR200 or 250 would be another good choice. Dirtbikes have more power compared to ATV's and trikes. If it were me, Id look for a XR250. Anyhow, Good luck!

I forgot all about those weird ass kicker's why would you do that?
Why would you swap in a 350x? Just buy a 350x, less hastle and probably about the same price as the install.
I have seen a pic of the 250x/300ex install, that would be a way to go. Reliable, 5speed with reverse, and depending on how you go, kickstart or electric, decent aftermarket supply too.
I would say though that the 125 or blaster 200 swap isnt a bad Idea. The power level will probably be about the same as the 200x, but after you get into some pipes, porting, and what not, that sucker will really rip.

We are currently working on putting a CBX250 motor (like an XR250) into a 83 250R. We are a little short on parts for the R, we got the frame from the junk yard. Our other thought was to convert the CBX250 into a trike.

Should be interesting but at least its electric start...

I'd go with a 125 two stoke...absolutely~

A 350X motor will fit in a 200x? No.

A 200X motor is the best soloution. If you want to waste money (in a good way) the go to www.powroll.com and buy some 200X motor hopups and enjoy.

Whats wrong with your stock motor anyway?

I was looking at a pe185 (2-stroke) motor the other day, and the bottom mounts look quite similar to the 200x. the exhaust port comes out to the right side i think (angled) it would be a nice conversion. the motor is probably quite similar to a blaster motor

Even though I say he should just buy an R, I gotta ask...

Have you ridden a new 125 lately? My 5 year old YZ was rated at 32.3 hp. The '01 CR was 31.5 hp. It wouldn't be slow by any means.

You also got the IT 175, PE 175 motors. Those should be peppy.

IT motors in general are pretty good. I used to own an IT250, and I've seen a 175 in action. Pretty good snort for a 25 year old motor, and they're air cooled for an easier swap. Even the old Honda Elsinore engines make good power. I'd say if you have to swap though, keep it all Honda.

That would be my idea. The blaster is faster than a 200x stock for stock. And those 240 big bore's run REALLY well. :beer
