Yamaha 225 light switch

I have discoverd I have a Honda switch on my 225 Yamaha.

The Honda has the light switch, on/off and the ES button. The yamaha seen here http://i24.ebayimg.com/02/i/03/c8/03/21_1_b.JPG is listed as just a on/off & light switch. If so, where is the ES button located on them? :wondering

The Honda one on mine no longer has a useable ES button so I might just use a kill switch as an ES button but it has me curious how the Yam 225 is?

The starter button should be under the light switch like Honda does. If there isn’t an electric start button there then it is from a Yamaha 200 which didn't have electric start. I wouldn’t use the kill switch as the starter button because I would be afraid that I would hit it when the trike is running and turn on the starter with the engine running and then it would stay on.

Oh... yes .... I see that one you posted about "cleaning it up tip" you had. Yes, that is a HONDA one! I have a couple 225DX/200E Yamaha ones here. I'll trade you.

Well it all depends on which one seems more ergonomicley correct. I have a feeling I'll like the Honda more but thats just a guess.

You have a valid point which I did not think of but I doubt it would ever happen. I just directed my thoughts to the opposite spectrum: Did I ever hit the kill switch while riding my 3 & 4 wheelers and bikes in 30 years? No, I did not (that I can recall). Did you?

I could simply get another switch or find a nice set up that would go on the dash. Would be different, out of the way and probably look good too since it is the dash. Question is though, where would I get such a part? It would be so simple to do. Driil a hole, push it through, thread the nut on and done. Heck, even a toggle switch would work!

You can get a momentary switch (push button) from walmart for like $5. I got one for an old street bike project that was missing the electric start button. Worked great.

The Yamaha switch is more ergonomical. The switch go bo thup and over. I don't need the start button. .... all my Honda's are kickstart! Honda designed the main part of the switch to be the same ES or not. Take off that little screw, and now I can use that switch on my 82R. :naughty:

Now Yamaha had a totally different mold for the regular 200 and the 200E/225DX to incorporate the electric start button. However, if I was doing a restore like you said. I wouldn't be caught dead mixing different manufacturers parts on my trike... just my opinion.

It doesn't bother me to not have it exactly original especially if that particular part funtions better then the OEM part. If it fits perfect and works better then stock I'm all for it then.

Now if I was restoring it to exact specifactions for a judging contest then yes, surley I would have it all stock.

Understand where your coming from perfectly though.
