the 86 250r i have is my first 250r and also my first 2 stoke so i dont have anything to compare it to. I was wondering how badly they are supose to vibrate? because mine vibrates pretty bad espeacialy when i rev it and at idle.
I have also noticed a clanking noise coming from the engine and dont know how normal it is either? could ther be something wrong with my counter balancer that could be causeing the vibration and the clancking? Thanks for the help

I would see how well the head pipe is attached to the cylinder....Chris

what would the head pipe have to do with internal clanking and vibration?

durrr....... metal + metal hitting = vibration and sound

Could be alot of things, counter balancer, a bearing going out, a loose bolt, nothing to it, but to get it apart and see. Unless your one of those people with the super ability to see through aluminum and steel.

haha i doubt my head pipe is going to make my whole trike shake. and like i said its coming from the inside of the engine

how badly should a normal 250r vibrate?

could be piston slap mixed with a bad rod bearing, that would be my guess, i have never had a counterbalancer go out on me and i blew up my 83R pretty good, 5th gear pinned for about 1/2 mile gps read 69.98 HEHEHEHEHE then it sounded like a grenade went off and KAAAABOOOOM dug a ring into the wall shot a hole about the size of a nickle threw the center of the piston, had lots of little peices in the bottom end.
i say piston slap with bad rod bearing

idk, my R vibrates pretty bad and the last time i had it apart, the counter balancer bearing had quite a bit of free play for a motor bearing....you can hear it knock when it idling and it ticks a little more when its revving up....

Since you've never had an R, and never had a 2 stroke, Id have somebody look at it, who has had one. There might be nothing wrong with it, and what seems like a lot to you, might just be normal.

Counterbalancers usually start to give you an engine "roar" when the bearings are worn and loose, without any noticeable increase in vibration. If they are "timed" incorrectly when installed, they will give you excessive vibration, and can even increase vibration over a non-balancer motor.

yeah i think i am going to have some one look at it because it shakes pretty bad. like i can see the tires wobble a little at idle
