hope someone out there can help me.I have an 81 250r it has rear drum brakes will an 82-84 swing arm work if i change the shock?this is the start of a rebuild.if not than what swing arm will work,i am going to extend the swing arm that works at least 3"thanks for any help.

no it will not. you must convert over to disc breaks as well, you are limited to only a 82 swinger. 83-84 used a totally different frame and shock geometry. you can change the shock, rear link, drum and all that to work as a 82 rear end, which has discs

You can't use the 82 swingarm on a 81 frame unless you want to try to make up brackets to hold the master cylinder and resivour.

what i am looking for is to replace the hole rear end to have dick brakes.if everthing would work i would change the shock.

Well.... I don't think the shocks different, but you will have to use a 82R complete rear end, then find a way to mount up the resevoir and master cylinder for the rear brakes. Different swinger, axle and complete brake mechanism.

i can make modifications would a swingarm from an 83-84 work?

Already been answered...... a 83/84R rear end will NOT fit on a 81 or 82R.

what stops a 83-84 from fitting?

Swing arm pivot bolt.... shock mounts..... geometry (Gee I'm a tree) is completely different. Try it if you want... let me know how it goes... :p
